Hi everyone. Discovered this site by chance. What luck! Have just retired and now have the time to try patchwork for the first time. Very exciting but also a little bit scary. So many wonderful quilts on display. Need lots of advice as I haven't done any real sewing for over 40 years.lol.

Welcome from the frozen tundra of South Dakota, USA. Glad to have you with us. I have been here at QB for almost a year, but I love to get on here. Need to control myself a little more so I am more productive. Have fun, and you will be making quilts for everyone soon. Blessings,

Just bought my first lot of fabric. Haven't got a definate block or pattern in mind but couldn't resist. Desperately need advice on washing. Do I cut the selvage off first before I wash or after.

Hello and welcome from New Hampshire

I take selvage off after washing; however, I rarely wash fabric anymore unless am sure it's going to run.

Hello Saf from a fellow Brit, albeit over 20 years since I left. I only started P&Q just over 6 years ago - and it is very engrossing and enjoyable. You will pick up lots on here.
