Another warm welcome from Southern California! I learned to sew from my mom and taking Home-Ec, but I really got into quilting watching Eleanor Burns (Quilt in a Day), Georgia Bonesteel (can't remember the series name, it was on PBS many years ago), and Alex Anderson (Simply Quilts). Now I go to YouTube and also Missouri Star Quilt Company - she has so many great tutorials.

Greetings. I too had done a lot of sewing before I started quilting. There are a lot of ways to make the transition. If you can, take a beginner's quilt class at your local quilt store. I also highly recommend Eleanor Burns -- the Quilt In a Day site has lots of videos (they are on utube too). Eleanor really breaks things down in her demos. I have several of her books that I got when I was learning modern quilting -- she made learning easy.

It took me a long while to get the hang of it.. I joined a guild, only to find some are real experts and artists. Financially, wasn't always possible for me take classes.. Our guild has a huge book library generated by donations, and lots of you tubes to learn.. To my discovery I realized that learning from others was difficult cause we each have our own taste of quilting.
I'd buy lots of tools, books to realize for some it's lots of practice. Lots of precision for quilting.
Then, found my niche making quilted clothes, least I wear it daily making full use of it.. and some have purchased my designs. I still work on baby quilts for donation committees where I get fabric donated, and allows me to practice.
