Hello and welcome from Michigan! You can come have lunch with me anytime and I'll talk your ear off! And we would have so much fun sewing all day!! I'm so blessed to have friends to quilt with and two sewing groups that I go to where the women are all friendly and warm. I also recently joined a guild and because I went with a friend, she kinda helped pave the way by introducing me to people and now her friends always save me a seat. It's hard usually to "break in" to a new group. I don't think people mean to be unfriendly or hurtful, they may just be shy or not know what to say to a newcomer. I know it's hard for me unless someone introduces me.

I did not feel like the people were friendly there either. I went to 4 meetings. On that day we were doing a project. When it got late (into lunch time) some of the members got out their lunches and others just walked out to go eat. No one said anything before or during that lunch time. We got a newsletter, but nothing was mentioned about lunch. It really hurt my feelings and I never went back. I just realized that I have been missing a lot of fun with yall.
Thank you, ... LindaLu from Pearl River, LA
    LindaLu,
First, welcome, you will enjoy spending lots of time here. As far as your experience with joining a guild, please give it another try or maybe find another guild. My guild is so friendly and we always try to welcome new members. Sometimes you have to jump right in and not wait for others to spotlight you. Bring something to show off, ask questions to show you are interested. We have a pot luck lunch so everyone can participate. We have monthly drawings for goodies that help fund our charities. If the guild has one, buy a ticket and it will help break the ice by going towards the excitement. I know it may be difficult to get started but try to find that person in the crowd who brings the fun to the guild. You should be able to spot her. Talk to her and she'll draw you in. Don't give up. Socializing with quilters on this board is great fun but it's still not quite the same as getting together in person. My license plate holder reads "Make new Friends -- Join a Quilt Guild". Good Luck.
