Welcome from TN. I am a newbie also, but I have managed to catch on. This is a great bunch here, and everyone is helpful and will make you feel and home. Don't be afraid to ask question and before you know it, you will be right at home. :-P

Hello from the oldest town in TN.

You have found the right board to learn a LOT about quilting and other things.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, or do a search to see if it's been discussed already.
We all have been newbies and know the fun of learning and now of sharing. I was a total newbie last August! I've come a long way in a short time.

Hi and welcome to the QB. You will learn a lot from the quilters on here. I am still trying to learn quilting myself. Have fun and enjoy.

I like Rail Fence for a beginner's pattern -- looks more complicated than it is and not many seams to match.

Do you have a library nearby? Quilting books from the library would help explain a lot of the steps involved in quilting, with pictures. Also check out Youtube for video demonstrations of machine quilting, binding, etc.

Hi :) You should try a rag quilt. Very very simple. Very Very easy. You don't have to worry too much about straight seams and seam allowances don't have to be exact. Plus they look pretty cool in the end without a ton of work. Good Luck. Have Fun!
