Thanks to all of you for your great suggestions! You've got me thinking! I may have to draw up different ways to extend the length, and see which one I like the best!

Hello and welcome from Boston, Ma. As far as the quilt goes you can do whatever you like but I would lay everything out first and see how you like it before you sew. I would also think of adding more blocks if you are doing blocks or something other than extended top and bottom borders.
