Hi everyone. I'm new to quilting (just started 5 months ago) and have enjoyed every minute of it! Talk about using the brain cells! Trying to figure out some of the patterns is a real tough job! Fortunately, my quilting friends have taught me tons of stuff. We make quilts for veterans (SoCal Quilts of Valor-check out our web site) I'm currently making log cabin tops. Love all the ways you can lay them out! Also have tackled my first "on point" quilt top! I will need help finishing that one! Where do you all lay out your quilts to see if the pattern is going to work out? (other than the floor-I'd never be able to get up!) Really enjoy reading all the chit-chat. LOVE the pictures of your quilts too! Amazing!

Welcome from Tennessee! I have a design wall I made where I covered insulation board bought from Lowes with flannel. It works really well. If you buy the insulation board, take some straight pins with you and make sure they will penetrate the board. Some kinds have a coating on them that makes it very difficult to penetrate with pins.

Welcome to the board from Ventura County!!!

I lay mine out on the living room floor to put the "pattern" together. I sometimes need help getting back up! But to sandwich them, I take them over to the church, basically a block away and push together tables to spray baste the quilts together. I have trained my husband very well to help me do this!!!

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D
Can you lay them out on your bed to work on the layout?

Hi-welcome from another Southern Californian! Where are you? I'm in Ramona (North-east San Diego). I use to lay them out on my queen sz bed, which works fine for quilts that are small enough NOT to hand over the sides, but I just got a Fonz & Porter design wall (50% off!) which is gridded on the back side and this flannel-like on the other side which is see-thru. Blocks stick really well, but it is no larger than my queen bed top. I use it in my sewing area which is more convenient than having to keep going into the bedroom! You'll get many other ideas on this board
