When you are working with embroidery whether by hand or machine you need to start with a larger block because it will pull up some. After you are all done you will cut it down to size.

Hello from down the pike. I'm about 50 miles southwest of OKC. I work in OKC but our main office is in Tulsa. I'm also 50+. You will love quilting. Welcome to the board. You will learn so much. In fact I just learned something tonight while reading about borders. Again welcome

Welcome from N California! I have a sister, brother-in-law, for nephews and a niece who live in your area. I've been there once and it sure is a pretty place!

Thanks for the Welcome Okie! This seems to be a great site. I just found it today and haven't had a chance to read much of it yet but I will.

I would make it at least an inch bigger but even more would be good at least until you figure out your work. Then you could maybe cut it a little closer but still too big. I can't tell you how much fabric and work I have wasted because I am trying to save fabric. Not worth it. I wish I didn't know this first hand. LOL.
