Hi, Pam, and welcome from Minnesota! I grew up in southern Wisconsin and now live 15 miles from Hudson, WI. I can't help you with the goat block, I'm afraid. As for machine quilting, there are lots of free tutorials and info online. I know a lot of people like Leah Day's lessons. There is a quilter in Stillwater, MN named Lori Kennedy who blogs at The Inbox Jaunt and who does terrific tutorials with step-by-step photos and descriptions of methods for some fun designs. Everyone says you have to practice a lot. And Lori also says that doodling is a great way to become comfortable with making quilting patterns and building muscle memory. I hope this helps.
