Welcome from the SHO-ME state - Missouri - in the USA. Where are you located? I started my sewing experience by buying a cheap, used sewing machine from a sewing machine store - they sold new and used machines. I would "trade up" when I had some money and wanted a nicer machine.

Welcome from SC Texas. I have a Singer 401A I bought new in 1958 and it has been a wonderful machine all this time. I also have a Brother I bought at Wal Mart that has all the quilting feet and things for quilting and have been happy with it. I only payed 169.00 for it. I hope you find one you like and get started soon.

Hello, welcome from NC. I have a Janome, a Brother 6600 (for the fancy stitches) and a Kenmore that I've been using for 20 years. The Kenmore is my workhorse (weighs a ton), but the Janome is what I take to quilt guild because it's so much lighter to carry. You don't have to go very expensive to have a really good, reliable machine. I agree, save your money for fabric. Once the quilt bug bites you........'nuff said!! Glad you found us.
