    You said it purred like a kitten when you removed top thread and bobbin......so let's sneak up on it........first check that your needle is in snug, then thread top thread...make sure to follow manual instructions....holding that top thread to it doesn't get eaten, step on the gas..still purring? If so, now put in bobbin into case...make sure it's the right way, then put bobbin into race, again make sure it's in securely and right....now put in a piece of fabric and slowly step on the gas....noise or purr? If noise, I think you need to take to a repair shop......do you need to oil that machine?

    let us know....
