Welcome from Illinois. I get down to Kentucky now and then. I lived there fore a few years & loved it. Do you go to the Paducah show? Anyway, love free motion. The more you do the better. I suggest practice, practice and practice on felt. That helped me alot, stay with it and one day it just clicks. Did for me anyway.

Welcome from another transplant in Northern KY. I've been here 28 years. If you're looking for a community of quilters, how about joining a guild? The Stringtown Quilters in Florence is always welcoming new members. If you don't want to join a group, we have 2 sit and sews a month at Boone County libraries. You don't need to be a member to come. Have you been to our annual Quilter's Day Out? March 16th at the Boone County extension. Quilt show, vendors, exhibits, and lectures by Sue Nickels as our featured speaker. PM me if you want to know more.

I haven't gone to the Paducah show, but I would love to one year.
I enjoy browsing all the beautiful quilts at the KY State Fair

I didn't realize I could practice on felt. That is a great idea. Just 1 layer? or do I do some type of sandwich?

I think it would be great fun to visit your quilters day out. I live about an hour and a half away so once a month might be difficult, but I think the quilters day out would be fun!
