    I think that should say" Clip the thread, TAKE A DEEP BREATH" and pull.
    In over 55 yrs. of sewing, I have sewn through a finger about 4 times. Instinct is to immediately pull away (like a hot stove) but you really need to stop, breathe, think, and then act. Hurts a bit for a few days, but never had any complications. (Haven't hit the bone, just flesh wounds and nails punctured.)
