I'm a native Texan who has been quilting off and on for 20 years or so. I make quilts to be used. Some of them have been really interesting, but none are in the heirloom class. They are more for wrapping up sick kids or carrying one of my three dogs to the vet.
I'm a retired teacher--taught at Permian High School, the school about which the movie Friday Night Lights was made from the book by the same name. I'm a professional writer and a retired United Methodist preacher.
Hearing from any or all of you would be a joy!
Peace and grace

Welcome DNF! :D There seems to be a number of retired teachers here (I'm not one of them tho'!). I am a 3rd generation Californian, and have worked as a Chevrolet warranty administrator for the same boss since 1974! I've been quilting for about 15 years, have been a member of TLC Quilters since they were formed in 1995, and am currently the treasurer of the Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds. I usually prefer piecing, but have been dabbling a bit lately with art quilts through some guild workshops and have learned how much fun you can have with tulle & beads! lol  I think you will find everyone here friendly & supportive - enjoy!
Happy Quilting!

Hello and welcome from NY. The love of my childhood was books, I drove people nuts because I was always readin. So have you been published and what do you like to write? How about a quilt book. I'm sure you will like it here, we have a friendly helpful bunch

The workshop was given by Cindy Rinne (http://empirenet.com/drinne/art/), we started by sewing a background, using a photograph of a landscape as inspiration - mine started out as a waterfall & stream & plants....ended up "under the sea"! :D
I used tulle to overlay some of the areas, and to 'capture' a shell, and to make some sort of underwater plant thingie - once I started, I just wanted to keep adding more & more! I was just so much fun. These pics aren't even the finished version, but I haven't got a good pic of that yet. In fact, deciding when it was FINISHED was the hardest part! I added some beading & more shells....

Thanks for the reply. I visited San Diego when my grandson graduated from boot camp at Pendleton and I loved it. The people we met from California were wonderful although we all have deep and definitive Texas accents!
Working 33 years in the same place for the same boss sets a record in this day and time. I worked at Permian for 29 years and outlasted several principals and about six superintendents.
I'm interested in using preprinted panels in quilts right now. I bought a really helpful book about how to use them. Of course, some quilters think of those panels as "cheaters," but there are so many of them, attitudes will have to change.

Thanks for your welcome from NY. I went to New York City with the North Texas Civic Chorus two years ago. We rented one of the auditoriums in Carnegie Hall and sang Mozart's Requiem Mass.
I loved New York and New Yorkers. People had told me to expect a certain degree of unfriendliness, but I didn't find any people who were unfriendly or unhelpful.
I know I'll enjoy the forum and will try to be one of the helpful, friendly people who have been here awhile.
