Mona, Welcome and this is a great place to be. You will learn lots from everyone with the wealth of knowledge that is shared here and all the wonderful people.
I have found the missouri quiliting company to be helpful at times. Short and informative tutorials. Also Youtube has some good insturctions. Missouri quilting company shows you some different ways to lay out the squares to make pin wheels larger triangles etc. you might find this helpful.
www.missouriequiltco.com check out the daily specials too. They have some good ones.

Welcome. Check out quilt patterns in books, the library has a ton of them, and online. There are hundreds of patterns out there and they will give you the yardage needed. It is probably the easiest way for a beginner. I started the hard way, reinventing the wheel, so I am learning too.
