With all your wonderful talents, wondering what you did to make a living----were any of your crafts actually your source of livlihood?

My latest engagement in the quilting passion, is making various types of Bags. Shoulder bags, hand bags, shopping bags, computer/messenger bags, whatever type of bag I can think of, that will lend itself to quilting as the medium of construction. So far, they are starting to accumulate to an amazing degree, but I keep coming up with new ideas to pursue. Yes, I do make quilts, of a traditional nature for all of the relatives on the gift list, but these bags do consume more of my time that the more traditional quilting pieces. I love the 3 dimensional nature of the bags, I guess. It is more akin to one of my other hobbies which is furniture making/woodworking. I have made all of the furniture in our house, and I think of quilting as a companion to that sort of thing as they both lend themselves to detail orientation, and precision hand work. I used to sew clothes for both myself and my wife, but that has fallen off now that the quilting has taken over. I still do the occasion shirt, or skirt for my wife, but not as much as before. That about covers the basics for now. I am in the process of reloading a bunch of pictures from my old computer to my new Apple so I will be able to post some of my handy work when that is finished. I hope to become an active participant in this forum. So long for now.
    John

Hi! Welcome from the W. WA state coast.

I'm new too and if you take the time to look around ALL the links you'll find this place to be more fun then Disneyland (and I've ONLY scratched the surface!). Love it!
