Hi, I'm from Huber Heights, Ohio and brand new to quilting. I love looking at the pictures on this site. The quilts are amazingly beautiful. What talent. It gives me hope & inspiration that I may someday do quilts that look like those pictures. So far, I've done a couple rail fence quilts and one quilt with a diamond pattern. I have one rail fence completed and the other two need to be quilted. I didn't like my by hand quilting stitches, and so, I am going to try the free motion quilting on the others. Wish me luck...I will be trying it tomorrow.

Hi! I am also new. I have several quilt tops done, but not very confident in machine quilting. I am afraid to try any type of quilting, I don't want to ruin my beautiful quilt tops! I may try to find someone in my area to do the actual quilting, but would rather just learn to do it...so expensive otherwise! Hope all goes well and you have a beautiful quilt to show for it! :D

    Hello, and welcome from Missouri.
I learned to hand quilt by volunteering to help with our guild raffle quilt, back when we still did them by hand. I get to practice my hand quilting by joining the ladies at church who still do hand quilting. I'm sure there are opportunities to learn and practice in your area as well, just start asking!

Hello and welcome from Michigan. I do hand quilting, but I have way too many tops waiting to be quilted, so I'm going to try some machine quilting. If you want to try hand quilting, make a small wallhanging with some scraps and practice on that. It takes a little practice to get nice even stitches and even longer to get your stitches both small and even. Aim for even stitches and smaller stitches will come with time and practice. It's a lot of fun if you enjoy handwork!

Thanks for the welcome. I've been doing the FMQ for a couple of days now. It is learning process! Sometimes my stitches are just right and then other times they're either too small or too large. But, I think that I'm going to really like it as soon as I get the hang of it. One thing that I did today that has really helped me is I bought a pair of quilter's gloves with little grips on the ends of the fingers. I can move my quilt much easier with the gloves.
