You might also check in your area to see if there is a quilt guild to join. I joined one in Boone County and found many talented people to show me how various techniques are done.
It helps me to see things in person and have hands on training.

Hi and good for you for learning on your own. My thought is that the book uses a smaller size for a first quilt for a reason. A queen size would be alot to handle for a beginner. I would just go ahead and learn the binding, plus sandwiching, free motion quilting,etc., in an easier to handle size. You can always display it on the back of your sofa or on the foot of your bed, use it as a throw, etc. I don't mean to be discouraging, but would hate to see you become frustrated with the process, but that's just me. Have fun with it whatever you decide to do.

Hi Deedee! If you are self taught, you can teach yourself to piece tops and do binding. That is how I learned and I love to bind! Too bad you are so far away from Texas.....I would love to help :-D
