Welcome from Missouri!
My old machine jiggled the table when I tried to race! When I slowed down, it wasn't too bad. If the stitches are good, keep using it! Old machines are usually made with more metal than the new ones.
Ask lots of questions and use the tutorials here to learn.

I bring you greetings for south central Pennsylvania. I love African fabrics and batiks and have used them in quliting. I have found that african fabrics are so unique and colorful that they can work in a very simple block. Combined with a solid color, they can be quite striking. Years ago I had a head wrapper and one day I looked at it and realized that it was dyed in squares. I cut those squares/blocks out, placed them in a light blue borders and hand quilted them on the patterns of the blocks...I did it years ago and I look at it now and realize that many things could have been done differntly and better. My work has improved with each effort.
I concur with the recommnedation on the kenmore......I have had one for years and it worked well and was easy to care for....

Hi and welcome from Connecticut. I hope you find a machine from all the suggestions here quickly. I envy your opportunity to buy African fabric, although I understand your comments about the danger there. Keep your head low, and keep on quilting!
