Hi, Sue! Good to hear from another Ohioan, too. I think I am going to really like quilting. My dream is to get into art quilting, especially as I take more and more art classes at the Toledo Museum. Time will tell. First I have to complete my second project. All I have made so far is a table runner...and it even looks like a table runner! :^) Best wishes, Sue!

Calli, I love old Singers!! So much so that I have 4 of them!!
I haven't done any machine quilting yet ( New Year's Resolution to stop being such a weenie and just do it hahaha).
I've always hand quilted but really want to learn MQ.
I'm pretty sure you can figure out a way to cover the feed dogs. You may want to start a new post with that question. There is tons of help here!
I have a Bernina and am still afraid to do FMQ!! I'm such a chicken lol

Sue, isn't the old Singer the BEST to take to a class?! On the first night of class, before I opened up my case, I had two ladies come over and ask me, "What is THAT?!" Then I opened it up and a younger lady asked the same question: "What is THAT?" :^) Several of the older ladies laughed, as did I. As someone who had an old 8-track player in her 1971 Pinto, I am not shocked by the older forms of technology. My Grandmother was a seamstress and she had a treadle-Singer! But some ladies had literally never seen the old beautifully basic Singer before, so the question was not a total shock to me.
You know, there just might be a way to cover that old feed dog! Thanks for the idea. I shall ask the question the next time I visit the Board. For now, though, I have to say "good night!" I have been on my laptop for a very long time, and I still have laundry to do.
Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR, Sue. I'll be back in touch soon.

Yes! The Door Mouse is incredible. I remember the old store, too. Wasn't that amazing? ...and almost scary! And then there is Forever in Stitches in Bluffton. Have you been there? I especially like their sales section. You see, I have already purchased material for my next three or four projects. All it took to get me hooked was my one and only completed project so far: a table runner!
Oh, dear! What did I get myself into? :^)

Unfortunately, Grandma's treadle was electrified for her, then stored carelessly by someone before we discovered it. I was so disappointed. By the way, she started her sewing "career" at age 6, and sewed until she was 90 or 91. When Grandpa was away at war, wealthy people would have Grandma move into their home to make wardrobes for each family member. By the time she completed the work in one home, another family would be asking her to come to their home. That is how she made a living during that time. I think that is so cool! She also joined other ladies to make cloth bandages to be sent to soldiers. As for quilting, the only evidence I have of her trying it is a half-done handmade yo-yo quilt that Mom said Grandma had started many years ago.
Good luck getting your treadle. I think they are charming, and I always have been drawn to the more basic ways of doing things.
Looking forward to hearing form you again...
