Welcome from Texas. Your bags are really great looking & glad you were able to sell them. I made one hand pieced/hand quilted quilt when I was just out of High School & did not quilt again until 2001 (at the age of 58). I had never heard of a rotary cutter, self healing mat, walking foot, etc. All these terms were new to me also. You will catch on fast. Hopefully you will find a friend who wants to learn along with you. This is a great board and it's full of very helpful quilters who have a lot of knowledge & are willing to help.

For now, good old scissors, ruler and pencil work just fine.

Welcome from Tulsa, OK. I'm also learning quilting terminology and techniques, they're different from sewing and I'm new to this board. You will learn a lot from this site and Missouri Star has many tutorial videos on You Tube.

I too will be making lap quilts and pet cage pads for charities. Currently I'm making items for the hospice that helped me out while caring for my mother and aunt. Love your bags you posted.
