Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll be making my trip to San Diego this weekend to pick out my sewing machine. I'll be visiting Sewing Machines Plus in San Marcos. I was on the phone with them today and they were very nice and helpful. They answered a lot of my questions, so I decided to make the drive. I'm not too confident with the shops that I spoke with here in town, so I will not hesitate to drive a few hours if it means getting good customer service.
Here is the thread of the machines that I'm looking at. I can't believe I'm actually stressing about which one to choose, but the main thing is that I want to choose the right one.

May in Jersey, The Christmas Goose has been the only quilt shop that I've been to here. I bought my Featherweight in to them for servicing last week and decided to browse around. They are a great store and I'm looking forward to taking classes from there. I'm sorry to hear you weren't feeling too great when you were in town. I always advise people who are about to visit to be sure to starting hydrating themselves a few days before the trip. That way, the body will start getting the much needed fluids in early. I work the tradeshows here and get a lot of attendees complaining about headaches and sinus irritation, and it is mainly because they aren't hydrated enough.
ShabbyTabby and cathylynn, hi fellow Vegans! I'm in the Southwest area of town, near Rainbow & 215. I haven't made it out to Quiltique in Henderson yet, but am looking forward to it. I hear it's a great quilt store.
