Hi I am new to quilting and recently bought a new machine. I was wondering if the sure stitch elite is just for use with a frame or if you need it when doing things like ditch stitching and straight lines without a frame.

It only will work on a long arm frame. It has encoder wheels which ride on the frame, attached to your machine by a control box and stitch controller is attached to handles.
