Even after all these years, this famiy never forgot the kindness and the good intent this quilt from USA has given them.

Lovely story to remind us that even in difficult times, there are wonderfully generous, caring people to help. Thanks for sharing this.

This does not end here. Here is an excerpt from another article about these very rare and unique gems:

"......when quilts were made and given, the process was as important as the product. Quilts represented a higher form of material empathy because they were inevitably personal and each was unique. Not for all the cash in Kansas could anyone go out and buy another just like the one given. The fact that quilts therefore literally went beyond money made them not only different but in an ineffable way transcendent......."-https://www.the-american-interest.co...ilted-america/

Something to always keep in mind as the years go by. Just as true then as now.

What a wonderful story. I hope that the quilts I've made for family and friends bring them joy and comfort during their lifetime. I may not be the best quilter, but I put a lot of love into every one I make. I think this sums up why we do what we do.

Exactly what I was thinking.....I can't imagine what they went thru during the war, and I'm sitting here near tears.
