Change Joann's stand on shipping to Canada
I spoke with a lady from Joann's to inquire why they would no longer ship to Canada. She wasn't sure of the reason but she suggested if there were lots of complaints from Canadians management might just change their stand.

I had a packaging/shipping store (like a UPS Store) for 29 years. The last few years I was getting caught in tariff fees and custom problems even on items shipped as gifts. One man sent a birthday package to his granddaughter and it got hung up in customs with a $40 tariff. He didn't want them to have to pay it and so we had to pay this whether we wanted it delivered OR if we wanted it returned. It was hit or miss if things got caught up. I do not know the specific reasons for the change in Joann's policy now, but my best guess is that it has to do with all the new rules about international shipping.

I buy horse supplies from the US all the time and they are shipped. They have a flat fee and they take care of the tariffs on their end. Never had a problem. It can be done and it would likely be a lot easier for a fabric place to do it than it is for a horse supply place, with all their different types of products.

I have been fortunate with my business. I know the exact tariff codes for my products and can check the box acknowledging they were made/mfg in the USA. That helps my shipments sail through customs. My guess is that JoAnns products are 99.9% NOT made in the USA (or North America for NAFTA) making the listing of multiple tariff codes and calculating appropriate taxes a nightmare. I would not want to do it but it could be a new business idea to design a software program that would calculate this, prepare the forms, and pay the tarrifs.
