We had neighborhood boils. My Aunt Sue made a mean etouffe. But my special treat were the crawfish pies from downtown NOLA. Mummn. Thanks

We were stationed at England AFB, LA right before it closed. I'd watch the guys catch those little suckers and in some boats, they were crawling out just about as fast as the guys caught them and dumped them in their boats. I could never bring myself to eat crawfish. Just gives me the willeys just thinking about them.

Yes, but I'm a Louisiana girl, so I buy the LA product--and prefer the wild ones (from Atchafalaya Basin) when available, even if they do cost more than the China imports.

So sorry you didn't try them at least once. They are just little lobsters. Did your husband take any college classes while at England AFB? I may have taught him. I taught English classes for St. Leo's College out at the base for several years until the base closed.

You'd be so surprised to see what Alexandria has done with the property, buildings, etc. out at the base now. The airport is fabulous for a small city the size of Alexandria, and should I become a widow one day, I'll be trying to get a house out there. My big house and 10 acres is too much for me to handle alone. The officers' houses have been updated and turned into a gated retirement home village for senior citizens (England Oaks), with so much going on and many benefits. A friend lives there and loves it!
Take a look for "old times sake:"

The new airport terminal is quite astounding, too.

I always wondered what they did with the base when it closed. Sounds like it would be a nice place to live and with being a gated community, you'd feel a lot safer. My hubby didn't take any college courses down there. I noticed at Walmart's today that they had frozen crawfish. NOT ME!!! Whenever I see someone suck the heads of those things, it just makes me cringe. I probably wouldn't even recognize Alexandria any more. It would be nice to see the place again.
