I have both the 14"and the 24", and I use both all the time, The way it works, is to place it next to the regular ruler that is put down on the fabric the width you would like to cut. Then place the slider ruler next to it. You then push down on the top of the slider ruler and the rubber feet comes down and will hold the fabric while you cut. It's great.
