The liquidator, Great American Group, bought Hancocks assets, and now in the process of liquidating those assets. Discounts are off the list price, so people aren't seeing the fire sale prices they expected. Hancocks had great sale prices on their heavier weight material I would buy, and the liquidator is nowhere near the low price Hancocks had. Plus can you imagine being an employee losing your job, and having to close out the store this way? Geez.

I will miss being able to find sewing tools and specialty items at Hancocks and the employees were always so helpful and friendly. Just sad to see an American icon close. I have fond memories of shopping there with my mom.

I never viewed Hancocks in competition with small fabric shops, because I found the heavier weight material I need there. It was not available at smaller venues. Hancocks provided a wide variety of fabrics (even though I know some may have concentrated a little heavy on furniture/home décor). My local Hancocks was 95 percent fabric/sewing notions, very little devoted to home décor. So it will be missed, in my opinion.

Yes, exactly! Most of the shopping I did there was for things I couldn't get elsewhere. Try to find an extra long, heavy-duty zipper in the perfect shade of tan. And getting those monthly coupon papers in the mail has always been fun.

Oh and all the trims they had in stock. I will miss them...makes me sad.
