    That first hack was new to me - good idea having the take go off the edge of the sewing table! Thanks for sharing

    Actually, you never want to use masking tape, it can harm the surface of your machine. I noticed the title used the term "masking tape" when they are talking about "painter's tape", which is easily removed and does not take the finish of your machine with it when you remove it. Both masking and Duck tape can do harm to your machine and leave a residue on fabric.
