Default Merry Mayhem's New Year Mystery 2014

Anyone taking on the Merry Mayhem New Year's Day Mystery this year? I searched and couldn't find a thread for it. I've done it the past couple of years, usually along with a slew of members of this forum.

This year's looks fat quarter friendly. If anyone else is along for the ride, I'm in!

I've done all the pre-cutting and made the 240 (!!) half-square triangle pairs. I have not done one of these before--are all the instructions free on New Year's Day, or will they charge for them?

This does look very interesting & I am needing to make a graduation quilt for one of my grandson's for 2014. I already have 20 dark fat quarter's, so all I need now is to find the light colored ones. I will be interested to see what the next step will be. Thank you for sharing!!

The instructions are free for the day and a few hours after that. I download and print them off.

I think that this one is going to be neat- first scrappy one that I will have made. A variety of colors for my darks, and creams and whites for my lights.

What do you think the pattern will look like?

I think that we will be making the large squares into HST because of the measurement of the squares.

    I can't wait until New Year's Day!

I discovered that I have very few "light" FQ's in the ol' FQ box! I'm always determined to make these New Year's mysteries from what I have on hand, so I've gone with "light-ISH" for my lights and "ultra darks" for my medium/dark fabrics.

I usually make HST with Thangles, but I'm going to be brave and try the 7/8 method for this one. I have one of those little rulers that's 1/2" wide, so you set it on the square, draw lines on either side, and sew (scant inside) the lines, then cut down the middle. Glad I have a few days to get through all these HST!

I have done two with her and thought they were great. I was
Thinking about using Christmas fabric dark red and green and white & beige background. This would be my first scrappy quilt as I like too much order... Am I stepping out too far trying to do a Christmas scrappy? I've got other fabrics I'm thinking I'm not too brave!!! I love this board and your help, suggestions, and info you give. I've learned everything from here!

Is this a free mystery quilt or will she charge for the 2nd step?
