Its really easy to make them. Draw a circle whatever size you want. ( I use a pie plate, pizza pan,or whatever) Fold it in half ,then fold again.Take a ruler and draw a line across the rounded edge from side to side and cut off the rounded portion. Unfold and you got it!

sringh 10-30-2010 07:46 AM

Oh ya I can do that and thanks

AnnaK 10-30-2010 09:03 AM

Thanks Riversong! I have a small center made from a Dresden plate and I wanted to make it into an octagon. I am mathematically challenged so your instructions are great.

I've got a Santa started. Thanks for the idesa of drawing a circle and tried it on a small piece of paper and it worked, just like you said. Huggies Fay

Psychomomquilter 12-04-2010 02:58 AM

I did it too! with me being (well really not anymore) a newbe with the craft of quilting, I really loved to learn how to make this octagon, planning to create a doll quilt for January! Oh and I really am getting better on the borders!!

Yeah I took out the I can't do it and just started having fun with this .

Again thanks Rivewrsong for "fun"

Iluv2quilt 12-04-2010 03:02 AM

This is a great tutorial .... I will be making mine starting with a 12 1/2"
pieced Star in center .... and just adding coordinating borders.

BATIKQLTR 12-27-2010 07:36 AM

How do you bind your table topper? I am trying to bind a table runner that has non 90 degree angles and am stymied. Cindy

I was so inspired by your wallhanging that I just had to make one. Thank you so much for your tute.
When I was going through my stash to find a border fabric, I was shocked to find that I had a companion fabric to the dogwood blossoms around the cardinals. Who would have guessed.

The topper is beautiful. Thanks for the tut.

Me too! Really inspired by the lovely ones you have shown.

JerseyGirl in FL 07-22-2012 02:50 PM

so what happened to the pictures that you posted with this tute?

sewellie 07-23-2012 11:46 AM

Greetings from Idaho. When I call up this site it tells me that this image or video has been moved or deleted and it's signed by Photobucket. I so wanted that pattern, any suggestions for how I might get pictures with the tutorial?

greencat 07-23-2012 12:08 PM

I thought Riversong posted instructions on this site under Tutorials....and gave directions for making an octagon pattern. It's been a while....

sewellie 07-23-2012 12:41 PM

This again takes me to the Quilt in a Day tut and it says the same thing. When I call up this site it tells me that this image or video has been moved or deleted. So I still can't find it. What a dummy I must be.

grammy of 6 07-23-2012 01:51 PM

Seems like no one else is having trouble with the pictures, but I am unable to see any of the pictures. I can see the ihe instructions, but not the pictures.

sewellie 07-23-2012 03:33 PM

That's exactly what I get.

greencat 07-23-2012 04:24 PM

She must have removed all of her pictures
There is a nice octagon pattern at: www.pinetreelodge.net/extras.html
Something similar could be done with any size octagon shape and any number of borders.

The Babe 07-24-2012 08:24 AM

I wish we could get Riversong to post the tute with pictures again. Written instructions are my downfall....but pictures I understand.

bearisgray 07-24-2012 08:27 AM

I just looked - no pictures/images for me, either.
