I think Singer measures that space from the left end of the machine bed all the way under the arm... so part of that space might be the extended bed. Guess we will have to wait another week to find out! I have to say, I was one of the original detractors of this model, but now that I've seen more and read more about it, I'm getting a little excited about seeing the machine!

Okay, after some creative google-ing, I have verified that the measurement of 14"+ does include the extended bed. So, the under-the-arm space isn't really larger. If you go to the Singer Australia website, they have a downloadable brochure that gives this information.

I also discovered that the thread cutter Singer is referring to in the U.S. brochure is just the usual thread cutter on the left side of the machine that most machines have; it is not an automatic thread cutter.

Anybody want to take guesses on the HSN price? I'm registering my guess right here - $399. This is based on no knowledge whatsoever on my part (LOL) besides what HSN has done in the past.

Oh, it's Retro-Cute (not much harp space?) but I just set up my "new" Singer 301A and it has already won my heart. Real Retro

I am sorry to say that the Singer 160 Limited Edition and Singer makes absolutely no reference to the FW. If you look at the 160 it has a handle for carrying and can also be used in a cabinet. In Singer's long history there is only one sewing machine that fits this description and that is the Singer 301/301A. The motor on the 160 is mounted inside just like the Singer 301/301A, not outside like the FW. The 160 has the same locomative type design like the 301/301A, nothing near the design of the FW. To keep the traditional look it is painted Black with Gold. The 301/301 also has Black with Gold Decals. In my opinion they took the Singer 301/301A and worked from its design and added 24 different stitches. The only real difference is the 160 has a drop in bobbin. Singer does mention its use for quilting and the 301/301A has become one of the favorite sewing machines for quilters. Regards, Ray

PS: Nothing against the FW as I have one myself.

I think the new Singer 160 is cute as a button! However, I don't want or need anymore plastic things to break. I could buy quite a few Singer 15's for that price and nothing plastic about them! Oh, I do love my 15's!
