This is a new, stand alone gadget for winding bobbins that will save you the trouble of having to unwind your thread from the machine. It sells for $29.99 but Fabric Depot has a promotional sale going on now for this item. Just a caveat for Husqvarna Viking users: Fabric Depot advised me this gadget will not work on Viking Designer 1 bobbins.

Sounds like a great idea. Before I start a section, I make sure I have enough bobbins wound to get through. Now, if they would just make a sewing machine where you could pop in a whole spool of thread instead of bobbins, I'd be very happy.

I got all excited when i saw this gadget. Then i looked across the table at my old sewing machine. Not as cute or compact as the side winder, but it's already paid for and has been used often for the same purpose.

Walmart online sells a basic straight-stitching machine for around $40.

I wonder which i'd be more inclined to do if I had $30 and a hankerin' for a bobbin winder ... get the sidewinder, which does only one thing, or search the thrift shops, pawn shops and ebay first to see if i could find a second sewing machine for the same price.

thoughts from a dangerous mind.

    ExtremeQuilter,
Thanks for the heads up on the Designer I and the bobbin winder. If it won't do DI then it probablly won't do most of them I think the bobbins are all alike. But then I have only had the DII, DI and the Sapphire. tlcquiltnut
