I do this too. A light spray of starch is not enough to get the benefit of starching. It does make a big difference. I spray a light mist of water on it before ironing after it dries.

Yikes ! Looks like she uses a half can of spray starch for a fat quarter ! Time consuming, expensive, and overkill.

I like my fabric stiff, it stops all fraying and stops any bias edges from stretching when sewing. Starch is one of the cheapest items in my quilting room and I can do 24 fat quarters per can.

I have never found starch in any form to be expensive.

I do this to all of my fabrics also, makes cutting so much easier. I buy sta-flo in the blue bottle and mix for the medium
and it does a great job.

From what I see, there is no way that lady gets 24 fat quarters from 1 can...she was really laying it on. Expensive in my mind is doing my stash like she did..it would cost a fortune! Each to his own. What I remember from home ec class was that a little goes a long way, anything else is waste. For stiffer fabrics we were taught to do it in 2 or 3 stages, ironing in between..maybe that has changed over the years. I don't use spray starch at all, so maybe I'm out of the loop...it just looks likes a ton of extra work...I only starch if I have a lot of bias cuts, and then I mix my own.

I am making a Rhombus quilt that uses fat quarters. I got 24 fat quarters wet with one can of spray starch. I only starch the fabric I am going to cut, not to put in my stash. Who would do that?

I use Sta-flo in the blue bottle like QuiltNana or I use Magic Spray Sizing. Pam Buda taught a group of us about the Sta-flo method when we started her Circa1800 quilt. It was great with all the small pieces and especially the bias pieces. It made the cutting so much easier too. It was a lot of extra work but well worth it. I am going to use it when I make a homespun quilt.

No pre wash, no starch here. I occasionally use the home made Best press using vodka. I have done some complicated blocks and have yet to have a problem. When I have an urge to start a project I just want to get started, no big preps involved.
