I was dead set against buying the "higher priced" thread for a long
time. I had went to the Quilting & Sewing Expo one year here in Denver and stopped buy the booth of the store where I had purchased my machine from. If you "voted" on the projects on display made by their customers you got a free spool of the Floriani thread. Well for a long time I just kept moving this one spool around, one day I was needing a purple to make some lettering and I just didn't aseem to have the "right" shade/hue of purple then I spotted the Floriani spool and used it for my project. The rest as they say is history. I am a firm die hard fan of the Floriani thread and in fact I'm "slowly" working on purchasing ALL the colors offered. Right now I am up to 241 colors, plus 13 spools that are duplicates (because I use A LOT of the colors), and also 8 discontinued "premium" spools. Yeah I KNOW some people may think/ask "why?" because there are times when you need just that "right" color. I try to buy 2-6 spools per month, if possible but most the time I buy the Floriani thread when my store is having a buy 2, get 1 free, 50% off deal and so on. Hope you enjoy your Floriani thread.

Quilty-Louise,
I went to my lqs on my birthday this week and bought 3 colors of Floriani thread. I must say they have beautiful colors! I got each spool for 30% off each which isn't bad at regular price of $4.19 each. I'm going to try them this weekend on my new embroidery machine, can't wait! |

Craftiladi, that quilt is exquisite! Thank you for sharing!
Quilty Louise, So glad to see you on here, missed ya! I haven't used my floriani thread yet and will today but like you once I love something I go out and buy the rest of the colors. I must say though that Floriani does have some beautiful hues and shades which I fell in love with. my lqs had 30% the price which I think is not bad and they did have large sets of threads one with 100 colors for $269 and one for 50 for $199. So like you I wait for the sales which is why I have so much Sulky, get those for 1/2 off at Joanns. Thanks for the info! |
Tip for FSL bobbins
1 Attachment(s)
As some of you may know I LOVE making FSL,
and as you know when making FSL to get the BEST look you should using the same thread in the bobbin that you use for the "top". But then that in itself posses an issue knowing WHAT the color number is in the bobbin at a later date so that you can make sure to use the same color in the top for next time. Well I FINALLY figured out a solution that I find works GREAT (for me at least). I purchased (from WalMart) "Avery Color Coding Labels" in both round 3/4" & 1/2"x3/4" also got them in white. They are "removable" stickers so hopefully they won't leave adhesive residue on the bobbins. But at least NOW I can mark the bobbins and have an accurate "knowledge" of what the color is (at least from this point on). Still not sure what to do about the bobbins that are already full. LOL For those of you who are machine embroidery newbies FSL means Free Standing Lace. Here is a picture of the labels just in case anyone wants to see what the packaging looks like. Help!! My sewing machine works. But when I try embroidery it will do a couple of letters, or go several inches, then stays in one spot! Any ideas?
