I have several embroidery machines - my first one is a Brother PE700 (this in my opinion is a peice of junk, sitting in a box) the second one I purchased was Janome, can't remember the model, I gave this to my niece and she uses it regulary, my third one is the Bernina 440EQ, have used it for over 2 years for just embroidery, than I made the switch tp becoming a quilter. My most recent purchase is the Singer Futura that HSN sells, have not had to much luck with this one, at Easter was trying to make the baby a free standing lace basket and on the last panel, the machine chewed up the whole panel and bobbin. Haven't touched this machine since, went back to QUILTING!!! Getting back to the embroidery, I do remember the machines being very picky and the thread used, I found Isacord about the best to use on all the machines. Also after 7 to 8 hours of stitching time, change the needle.

Krystyna 08-01-2012 12:11 PM

Normabeth, I guess there's a machine for everyone. The Brother PE770 was my second machine and I absolutely love it. If you ever decide to part with it, PM me! So sorry you've been having so many issues with your machines. It sure takes the fun out of things.

nangars 08-04-2012 10:28 PM

You owe it to your self to take some classes, we will find out just how much you love to embroidery, these machines are to expensive not to use them. My shop is at least that far away on a good day with out traffic, if I only learn a couple of things that makes it worth it, then you might find others that do embroidery an can help you, people that are also taking the classes, as well as others on this site can help you. This is a great site to find others that embroidery on here.

I have a Baby lock Ellisimo, I love it and it isn't a fussy machine at all, I am sure glad I got this one, it works for me, had a chance to work on the big Bernia 830, that was a very fussy machine, if the machine is fussy you will not use it.

I am not replying to anyone, just had to vent. I have a diamond and topaz. Topaz is a great little machine works like a charm. Now the DIAMOND is another story. I got it when it first came out. $$$$$. in 2009. It has been in shop so many times. Just picked it up again. This is what I was told. You have used it a lot. (I didn't buy it to decorate dinningroom table. They didn't tell me I could only use 2 hrs a month). Then said I should shut off auto cut, because it makes a mess on the under sided. (this when I went I picked it up. I thank you for letting me vent. This was also the first time they told me to bring the emb. arm in. I am going to try it today and if it doesn't work you may hear me yelling across the country. Have a wonderful weekend. thanks again

I have a embird question. When I open up a design in embird why does it give me funky colors. Why doesn't it match the color of the design? is there a setting I need to change. Really don't care much for this program and looking for a much better friendly user program. Anyways that's my question about thread color...It doesn't seem to matter what I do, it's never the correct color and when you take the design to machine it has those funky colors, so one had better have the color chart for the correct color change...

This is a question that I can answer only because I asked it recently of emblibrary.com. They said that the colors are different due to the versions of the designs; .vp3, .hus, etc. They told me that the .VP3 was the closest to the one that they use in thier designs. this is why the colors are different; it depends on the design formats, not all colors show up the same shades

Sounds like you have a lemon and they don't want to admit to it. Heck, I use my Viking se and little baby lock ellure two hours a day everyday all the time!

btiny36 08-05-2012 09:50 AM

Thanks bunches romanojg for letting me know this.....sure makes it weird to do these designs...oh well must make sure I have the correct color chart next to machine...I also am using emblibrary designs.

If you look at Embroidery Library's website bring up the design on the screen and then click on the Color Change Sheet it will show the colors and the order in which they appear. Example, 1 red 0531, 2 green 9086, etc.

Also, I forgot who asked the question but I think that Singer's format is SEW but I'm not sure.

Ok so here I am again with a 2 part question. I have a dirt bike design and I added text to it. I would like the text to be arched does someone know I arch the lettering in embird? My second question is what size of needle should I use to embroidery on a hat (blue tip or red tip don't know the sizes of these)? thanks everyone for your continual support.

[QUOTE=nangars;5418510]You owe it to your self to take some classes, we will find out just how much you love to embroidery, these machines are to expensive not to use them.

I have to agree when it comes to taking classes. If you can't find classes on your machine then check out places that offer classes to anyone. My viking teacher will allow anyone into class as long as they know how to do the basics of their machines. Tidewater sew and vac here has an embroidery club that anyone can join. Once you join it is eaiser to meet people to get help and maybe have the same machine. I have taken off from work a few times when there was a special class offered during the day that differed from my nightly/monthly club class at the LQS. No matter which way you go I'd start off and still incorporate classes for your own machine even if it was a distance a way. Not all machines are the same and you need to learn things that the books don't even tell you. I was surprised at the things my machine does but I can't find it in the book. Make a day of it; find some quilting or other stores in that area that you like and or if there is a special grocery store pack a cooler and go then. I only have to go about 30 miles to mine but normally plan a few things to do when in that area if it's during the day. I do the same thing when I go to the stores 20 miles away; when I go I visit several things and make a day of it and then I don't waste gas going back and forth and just enjoy myself. Enjoy your machine; they are so much fun.

I have a Viking Ruby and it has never been finicky about anything that I put thru it. It has so many features and tons of different hoops including the endless hoop and then my favorite is the cutwork needles which makes those designs so much more fun. My grandson thinks its really neat how the needles cut the fabric. He also loves the embroidery machine because I can set it and walk away and it keeps on working; all by it self he says.

I think you'd have to tell us the brand of needles. I normally buy my needles all one size to a pack and they aren't color coded. The ones that are color coded say on the outside of pack what the size is. Do you have the package and are the embroidery needles or reqular needles. I don't work in Embrid so I'm sorry I can't help you there.

Krystyna 08-06-2012 12:07 PM

I only wish we had embroidery classes around here. It never ceases to amaze me that I live in a bedroom community of New York City and ... NO CLASSES!

I'm sorry to hear about your problems with you diamond. I have a Ruby and use it all the time and I know those who use their diamonds with no problems. Sometimes mine will stay on for over a week without being shut off if I have a design in the middle of getting done around my working hours. Have you thought about maybe trying a different repair person or contacting Viking about this on going problem. This isn't the standard for a Viking. I have a viking #1 machine that was made in the 90's and it's still going; that's what Viking does, they keep on going and are meant to use. Good luck but check to see if there is someplace else to have your machine checked out; maybe the repair person is making out on your machine.

Can't help you directly, but I ran across a some info on it somewhere but can't remember where but I have found lots of info on www.youtube.com and search embird. I am also new to embird, has taken me awhile to learn, but like it.

I love Embird.....I change the colors before I download the finished design.....I can also set different thread brands to the default ......good luck...don't give up....I have 3 programs and Embird is my fav.....

There is a thing on embroidery.com under kenny's corner about the needles that may help you and he uses Embrid so you may find something for that as well. I normally always look at their projects and Kenny's corner to see how they do things when I want to learn things or to get different ideas on how to do things.

Quilty-Louise 08-07-2012 11:29 AM

I have been following all of you who have Embrid, so I went to
their website to learn more about it.

But since I already have Floriani Digitizing Suite Pro I don't think
I want to invest another $160+ into another program that I am
going to have to learn. Maybe someday AFTER I learn Floriani.

quiltnut4ever 08-07-2012 04:08 PM

QuiltyLouise,
An lqs near me is offering Floriani Embroidery class for $30. Its in Oct. and I wanted to know if its worth it. I've never used Floriani but I've heard good things about it. I own a Babylock Ellure Plus and would love to this 4 hr. course and the price isn't bad. Let me know.

I just took it 2 weeks ago. In ours we rec'd a box: In it contained 10 big rolls of thread, 5 disks with emb patterns, samples of stablelizers and many other things. I leared a lot about stablelizers and they talked a lot about Their programs. I did not buy anything as I already have embird for my program and am well supplied with stablelizers.

I get together with several friends each month and we have a gal that teaches something new each month. I learn so much from her.

quiltnut4ever 08-08-2012 03:30 AM

Almond,
were the courses easy to follow? I like the idea since I am a hands-on and visual person. I don't know of one person that I know of that owns an embroidery machine :( I figured for the price it wouldn't be so bad.

Quilty-Louise 08-08-2012 04:13 AM

quiltnut - I took a 3 hour class back in June it cost me $15, I did NOT learn
as much as I should of (it was the instructor not very good). Later the same
evening I did a 1 hour Floriani webinar that I had signed up for given by Walter
Floriani himself and I learned MORE in that one hour, he is the kicker the webinar
was FREE.

I am signed up for 2 more classes this year. The first one is on September 18 and
the title of this webinar class is called "I can Digitize and Sew Can You". The second
class is December 11 and the title is "Floriani Tip and Tricks".

There are SEVERAL webinars posted for FREE viewing at FLORIANI I think you
have to register, but not sure.

Check it out see if they are useful to you. Only sad thing is you can't download
the webinars.

I'm taking the class next month and it cost 30 but you get close to 600 in free stuff; that sounds like a no brainer. I've heard a lot of people talk about this class and normally it's really good and you learn a lot. If I learn nothing all that thread, the designs and stabliziers, etc it'll be worth a wasted trip but I'm expecting good things.

Hi, I'm pretty sure this is a lecture based program. They will talk about the software and provide discussion of stabilizers, then show samples of items made with different stabilizers. Well worth the money.

Crqltr 08-08-2012 09:18 AM

I took the class, I am doing it again in sept. I know I missed a lot and did not take good notes. Thread and designs alone were worth it.

Quilty-Louise 08-08-2012 12:11 PM

Where did you take this class at?

Only classes I have seen/heard about are the ones that my local
dealer offers that someone who went to Floriani for training did.

Is there another venue for taking classes? I would LOVE to find one
of those classes.

When they got to the stablilizers it was pretty easy to follow. The program was pretty much above my head. To sum it up I would go back again.

That's exactly what they are offering here for $30 with $600 worth of thread and free designs. I' think I'm going to sign up!

I'm so frustrated and disappointed. :( My brother pe 770 does not, I repeat does not like the embroidery threads from threadart! I am now stuck with over 100 spools and can't do a darn thing with 'em.

What embroidery threads do you use or suggest?

TIA

sewgarden 08-20-2012 01:21 PM

I have a brother 1500d that I don't embroider with near enough. I don't seem to be able to find enough time to just play around and experiment. I have done towels for gifts and I've embroidered on the grand childrens clothes but really haven't used it enough. How does everyone find time to just sew. How is this chat going to work as I'm interested in getting to know others and learn some new tips. I usually just read the firsr page of what's new so would this be done through a forum or a pm or live chat or what.

nygal 08-20-2012 01:23 PM

I haven't used my embroidery machine in a few months. But I signed up for a fq block swap recently and I may end up using it for some of the blocks.

Sharon, before you give up on your thread, try changing your needle to Organ Needles top stitch 75/11. I also have a PE-770 and was having a heck of a time with various threads. They kept shredding like crazy. Then Quilty-Louise suggested the needle change and I haven't had a problem since. Not even with metallics!

SharonTX 08-20-2012 05:02 PM

Hmmmmmmmmmm now you have me thinking. Where would I find these needles? If these work, I need to cancel my order with MrVacandMrsSew as I just placed an order for the Polystar thread, as I do have some along with some brother thread and those work perfect in the machine. Debating big time. I would hate to cancel and still have the problem.

Thanks for the advice and please let me know where I can find those type of needles.

Krystna: Have you ever used Thread Art thread in your embroidery machine. I love this question from Sharon. I also have used Thread Art poly thread and love the price, but recently my 780 Brother broke down and had to go in for repair. I found out I was using the wrong size bobbin that we believe may have caused the problem, but the repair person said she suspect the Thread Art might also be a problem.

I am also going to give the needles a try. Will be watching this to see where I can get them. Thanks, Mary
