I load a smaller design in it does the same thing but I just used the bugger with a larger design and was fine. I have turned off and reset program, computer, and emb machine. It is a Bernina 165. Just the darndest thing. I am doing the Peppermint Twist table runner. Any ideas?

Yep I have, I am able to run the 4 x 4 design just fine, but the 5 x 7 hoop will not work for some reason. I did the other small designs and had no issue, but the larger designs won't work now.

Sometimes the design is just a teeny bit off center and that puts it over the 4x4 size. Try re centering your design and then try it again on your machine. Another problem could be one stray stitch is out of your 4x4 design area. If so carefully look at your design in your software program by enlarging it and look over the entire design area to see if there is a stray stitch. Just a few things that might help you.
|
I think I read that the 4x4 works fine--it's the 5x7 that is giving the error message? Just a quick question--have you ck'd the connections on the hoop(my simplistic description),,to see if there is any damage or something in/on the connector parts? Sounds like the machine is reading the large hoop as a small hoop--for some reason.
|
Quilter Momma,
Is it just that one design? Has the design ever been edited? I am so frustrated when I can't sew out a design. Please let me know if you got it and what it was. Janette |
Yep, it is the hoop. I ended up calling the Bernina store in Billings, Montana where I bought it, no one at the Bernina dealership here in Spokane knew what could be the problem. Talked with the Tech, Steve, there and he told me that there is an adjustment screw on the hoop that is not being read by the sewing machine so I needed to adjust that and make it straight across so the hoop could be read. I just had this hoop repaired by the local dealership and it was not set just right so my machine would not read it all the time, just half the time. I did that and finished my designs right up last night and runner is done. Yeah! now to put border on and get quilted. Thank you for the help ladies.

I know, it would be awful not to finish my projects before Christmas. I have to do a coffee dq now so will have that stitching on the Bernina while I do the border on the Singer for the table runner. Love multi tasking. Then after I finish that runner, will cut up the borders and pieced block for the dq so there will be two things done and ready for longarm which is Sunday afternoon and hope to get at least four quilts done, the dq, and the tablerunner.

Birds nest problem
2 Attachment(s)
I am hoping someone can help with this one.
I have a Brother 6000D - love it! When I've been stitching out a design, somewhere along the line I get a whopping birds nest around the bobbin. I asked at the LQS and the lady there said if it is happening underneath, it's an upper thread problem. She also suggested that when I am doing thread changes I may not be insuring the thread is going through the uptake lever. OK, checked it and I am threading correctly. What I have noticed is it seems to happen with satin stitch, and of course it waits until I am nearly finished with a project. I have been working on little stocking ornaments and the final satin stitch around the perimeter is getting nested, so I have had to throw everyone away since I have to cut it out of the machine! Today, I was working on a star and it happened again on the satin stitch. Checking the thread and it is still in the uptake lever. I have tried doing a quilt in the hoop and of course at the end of the stitchout, it did it again. This time on a stipple stitch. I am concerned since I am starting a project of a quilt in the hoop from hoopsisters, and I really don't want to ruin a batch of expensive fabric. Suggestions, anyone? Pictures below, and I'll apologize ahead for the blurry one. Thanks, Jane |
Jratcliff--I've offered suggestions already, I know. Seeing these photos I think your problem is definitely in the top threading--in the tension disks somewhere. Let me offer another suggestion..I have a Bro ULT D 2003..I LOVE it and it does a great job--BUT I am having a problem almost exactly like your pix show. It's too far for me to take it to my guru until it needs something else. So! Here's what I do. I thread up to the needle--then I raise the foot (It is already up)..I raise it as high as it will go and immediately let it down on the hooped project. Then I use the auto threader to put the thread thru the needle. As I get read to push the "go" button, I give a little tug to see if there's resistance on my thread end. Sometimes! I have to go thru the ''lift'' procedure again---or twice more. It's something in a tension disk (or brain) that is not cooperating. May I suggest that you experiment cking if there's resistance on the thread after it's thru the needle? If it is easily pulled thru after you have the foot down--then that's your problem & that, my dear, calls for medical help! Fingers crossed--good luck.

I started on a applique in the hoop project yesterday. All straight stitching, bean stitch. Everything was going just great until the final motif. There is no applique fabric added to this part, just stitching, and sun-of-a-gun, it happened again. Only this time I was sitting right in front of the machine and could hear the change. This one actually shut the machine off. Fortunately, I was using a magnetic hoop so re-hooping was not an issue and I could go back to the spot and finish. Anyway, when I checked there were only about 10 wraps around the bottom and the assembly. Took it out and moved on. Then the tension seemed way out of wack so stopped again to check everything. There was a tiny piece of thread on a metal piece just to the left of the bobbin. It's a non-moving piece, but never the less it seemed to make the tension wonky. Just finished the piece so now I can finish the project. I will try doing a thorough cleaning of everything before starting another. |
That's ''semi-great"-- haha I will say that I've had the thread tension go bad again while actually in the process. I stay near & when I 'suspect', I stop, lift the foot high & back down again...and continue on. But how do you fix a problem like I had this a.m.? Loaded up--started off-fabric pulled from side of hoop and bunched & big mess! MY FAULT..mind wandered and I forgot to tighten hoop screw!! We all have our mishaps.

To the birds nest, I was talking with a friend who said she had the same thing happen and always when she used Sulky thread. She changed to Madiera and it quit. Of course, Sulky is what I am using right now. The other thing she said was, the person that sold her the machine said to use just a touch of lubricant on the needle from time to time and it would stop. He attributed it to sticky build up on the needle from going through the stabilizer. She also said she finally gave up after her third machine and went to a 6 thread model and it hasn't happened since. I'm not ready to go that route. One reason is the cost, and the other is I'm not in this as a business - just for my own use and fun. |
snap hoop, magna hoop?
Does anyone here use the snap hoop? I got the large one to do quilting in the hoop and I really like it. At least I do now that I've been practicing with it. Re-hooping is so easy since the fabrics aren't being squished down into a hoop. One thing I have noticed, however is the fabric can't be pulled very taught and the magnets aren't strong enough to hold much thickness. Any hints or tricks from anyone? Also wondering if I might get a smaller one. Still undecided on that one! Jane

I've had the same thing happen, but not from lack of screw tightening. It is when my threads get caught in the bobbin and the machine doesn't stop, or one time when the thread cutter didn't cut the threads and the hoop moved quite a distance.

Without reading through the entire thread about the tension I don't know if anyone has offered this suggestion. I have sold Viking, Singer, Brother and Pfaff. I can tell you one thing that helps a lot is to close the lid to the top of the machine so that thread does not fly out of the uptake lever when it gets going really fast when the thread is in the horizontal position.
Hope this helps. |
Jratcliff,
I always leave my cover down. Ive noticed that since doing so the thread doesn't get caught or broken. However these machines do have a mind of their own! lol! Enjoy your machine! |
I seldom close the cover on my machine (where the spools are).
But I ALWAYS use thread nets on ANY spool of thread I use on my machines. I have found that the thread nets help "control" the unwind of the thread as it is sewing or stitching embroidery. Of course this is just what I have found works best for me. A few years ago I was having issues with my thread (ALL thread not just embroidery) was nesting in the bobbin area. What I found was a SMALL mess of thread in the upper tension area. What I did to remove that (without taking machine apart or in for repair) was take a LONG length of 6 strand embroidery floss and "thread" it in the machine without going threw the needle and pull it out from the bottom I did this repeatedly until I was able to 1) work the "nesting" of thread out or 2) able to get some LONG thin tweezers in enough to grab the thread and pull it out (if you can see anything). Now before I start ANY new sewing project I run the floss through the machine just to "clear" and thread pieces that might be in there. So far no more issues with nesting in any of my machines. |
Have you seen or tried these scissors (click on link below).
Last month I was at my local dealer where I go to get my Floriani thread and such and I say these scissors in the discount bin normally they was selling for $21, but they was marked down to 75% off so I bought them. I truly have to say I LOVE these little sidehopper scissors for snipping the jump stitches. Jump Stitch Scissors |
How cool! I hope someone here has used them and can give us a review.

Never seen these before and not to brag at all but my embroidery machine cuts the jump stitches however its always good to have these kind if in case it doesn't.

I WOULD have bought more if for no other reason than to have
a pair or two for backup purposes. But sadly they only had 1 pair of them. I used them yesterday for the first time it made getting the jump stitches cut and the "tails" cut close to the fabric without cutting any other stitches or the fabric. Will post pictures of the 2 items I stitched yesterday (after I get the pictures resized).

Wow...75% off. You should have purchased the whole bin and sold them on here for a slight profit. You would have probably sold them all AND made a little profit!!! I haven't see any like these at Hancocks, JoAnns or Hobby Lobby....no dealer/LQS in my area. :(

LOL show off!!!
:p:p:p Wish my machines did that.

Here are the fleece blankets I embroidered on yesterday.
One for my mother, I chose the this design so that she will ALWAYS have a "full basket flowers" and she likes purple so of couple I chose to do it in that color. I pout her name so that nobody at the assisted living home where my parents live could "claim" it as their blanket (it has happened before). The second blanket is for my great-nephew (brothers grandson) "little man" Wyatt who is 4-1/2 now (wow does time fly) he is the FIRST boy to be born in my family since my brother was born. So you can say that we ALL kinda spoil him rotten. |
Thanks for posting the pics Louise, they look great!

I initially started with a beginner machine Husq Viking EM10 which only had a 4x4 hoop...wanted to make sure I was going to like doing emb...Well 4 mths later I was upgrading to the Husq Viking SE with numerous size hoops. It also has jump stitch cuts. The main reason I bought this particular machine was due to it's extra software you could purchase you could scan photo's into your computer then stitch out the photo with some twicking if needed i.e. shadows . I did my husbands family tree with photo's going back to the 1880's Great Grandfather thru 1960's my father in law. I'd love to show the entire quilt but since I emb all their personal information on it can't but will share some of the stitched photo's
|
Wow. What a great idea. This will be a family treasure. The program did a really good job on the photo stitch.

hobbykat1955; great work, I got a Viking Ruby last yr and then in May I got the 5D pro because of all that it could do, the portraits, cutwork (love this) and many other things. I just got the Stitch Editor Plus (new upgrade) and love how much easier and better it adds the trim commands to designs with lots of jump stitches, I also use it to get rid of all unneeded stitches. I haven't tried the portrait part yet so I'm hoping its not that hard to learn. I'll probably take the classes from mypatience before I start; this is a great website for 4D and 5D. My teacher at the LQS loves his books

Do any of you have a subscriptions to an embroidery magazine?? if so which one is the best for your money??
|
I have THOUGHT about getting one, but quite frankly there
has NEVER been a cheap enough offer to entice me enough to get one. All I have are oodles of quilting magazines, and MOST of them are history when they expire. I get ALL my embroidery info online.

Quilty Louise I bow down to you one of our many embroidery goddess!:D As for the jump stitches I always have to remember to keep it on the on mode. And those blankets are adorable. I have yet to try fleece a bit intimidated by it but yours came out wonderful! I am going to be making the snowflakes tomorrow for the Sandy Hook Elementary drive. I'll make them green and white since those are their school colors. I'll post pics when I'm done.

This is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

LOL
qn4e you crack me up!!! embroidery goddess? oh that is a good one I will have to tell my hubs you said so. Of course he may disagree with you on that. But thank you for boosting my ego. If you go to embroidery library they have a FSL snowflake that is in 3 sizes and is FREE along with an address for the Sandy Hook drive. You have until January 10, 2013 to download this design. I went to download the design but I already have it (didn't know it until it alerted me!) so off to the machine today to do the snowflakes. The children and adult's families are in my prayers. Merry Christmas all!

Did you have all 3 sizes? I already had the medium size so all
I got was the two that I didn't have. Plus I am stitching out some of the other snowflakes that I have. Got BOTH machines going. There is 1 soaking, 1 in hoop finished, and 2 stitching out. |
