No, the PE 770 does not need the software. You can use the USB to load the files. (PES or DST) Don't go higher than 2 GB with the USB stick.

[QUOTE=dseale40;5967184]Yes, it is telling me I cannot use this hoop. The design is reading 8.60 x 4.63. The hoop
The actual size of your hoop is 10.25x 6.25, but that hoop is for 5x7 designs. Use the extra large hoop you got, it measures larger than the 10.25x6.25. Don't have that size, but my 5x7 measures about 6x10.

You can get a free program..and you reallySHOULD have one on your computer for when you see designs that are not in your .pes format--so you can change format & use them in your machine. Three free programs that come to mind immediately are

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but will try answering. I have a Brother machine and quilting in the hoop is all I've been doing lately. If I am doing all applique type quilting, I hoop batting and a base fabric which has an iron-on stabilizer. Actually, I get the very light weight iron on knit interfacing from JoAnn's and love the way it works. I have also used a very inexpensive light weight muslin as a base, hooping it and the batting with the base fabric on top.
If you are asking about placing a nearly finished quilt in the hoop to do the quilting, that I have not tried but have read that you might hoop a water soluble stabilizer and lay the quilt on top rather than hooping.
If you want to try applique in the hoop, I would highly recommend Molly Mine designs. She does some really cute stuff and every design I have used from her has been perfect!

Source for label tape?

I have been working on making labels for a friend who makes hats. So far, I have been using grosgrain ribbon which is working well. However, I recently read that the best type of ribbon to use is a woven label tape. The weave is different that that of grosgrain or satin ribbon and the threads will incorporate into the weave while they won't on grosgrain or satin.
Does anyone know where I can find woven ribbon? I've been searching the internet and no luck!
TIA for any information.
Jane

Quilty-Louise 04-02-2013 10:32 AM

Sorry I can't help you with labels as I have never made them.

I will keep my eyes opens in case I find any information for you.

Now to get the thread moved back up to the FRONT page and
off page 6.

Jratcliff 04-07-2013 08:25 AM

Label tape?
I finally found what I was looking for and love the way it sews out. Basic twill tape. The cotton type is a bit difficult to find although it was at JoAnn's on a roll. Limited in widths. Wright makes a twill tape, again difficult to find various widths and it is prepackaged. It is a polyester twill, much lighter in weight than the cotton and isn't bad on the stitchout. I do like it better than grosgrain.
It's kind of fun to play with the different types and see what a difference it makes in the finished product.
I've been using paper backed tear away sticky stabilizer. I just read somewhere that it may also work to hoop a piece of clear vinyl and cut a window, then add the sticky stabilizer. Guess that's my next experiment!

I had a 780 brother and it worked very well. I just upgraded to a a 11000 Janome. A friend of mine took my 780 andf is going strong.

grocifer 04-09-2013 05:01 AM

I believe there is a yahoo group titled Sew It's For Sale that you might find embroidery cards on and you can always enter a post that you are seeking card for the Husq. Iris. I have the Husq 1+ which is very similiar to the Iris.

QuiltingKrazy 04-09-2013 08:32 AM

YIPPIE SKIPPIE! My new PE-780D was just hand delivered to my at my office! He brought it in, set it up and embroidered my name to show me how to use it! I'm SOOooooo excited! Come to find out.... he works for Singer but they do Brother and Janome too! He is a certified repair person and does home service calls! How is that for service!

Quilty-Louise 04-09-2013 09:05 AM

So happy for you.

Sophie2 04-09-2013 09:10 AM

I bet you can't wait to get home tonight. ENJOY!!!

Krystyna 04-09-2013 09:33 AM

Boo-hooo-hoooo. Both my machines are at the doctor. Major bummer since I am making wedding favors for my son's wedding on the 20th!

mermaid 04-09-2013 01:23 PM

I came to this site and chose the "embroidery--chat" thread a few minutes ago and found 170 pages listed! I chose the #170 & started to read...but then decided to log in. When I had logged in, the last page # jumped back to 43...as it was yesterday. Really voodoo strange! Is it because my iPad? Or just a freaky happening?

quiltnut4ever 04-10-2013 03:21 AM

QuiltingKrazy congrats on your new machine. You will have lots of fun getting to know each other! :)

I am new to machine embroidery and love it! But, learning how to do machine embroidery has been a bit overwhelming for me. I have been experimenting with different stabilizers and I still get some puckering. I've read a few places, that you get more puckering with poly thread than rayon thread. Is this true? I'm using madeira poly thread and have had no breakages but am wondering if I should switch to rayon?

How many stitches are in your design. I find that if I use a layer of stablizer for every 10,000 stitches I have less puckering. I do use the Madeira Rayon thread.

I found this article helpful.

Snipforfun...Thank you for the link to the article! Ive read it before and it was really helpful but was good to read again. Sophie2...do you use rayon thread instead of poly for a reason? Do you think its better or causes less puckering?

Auntevie, I have never tried the poly but have never had any problems with the rayon, so I guess that is why I have stuck with the rayon. Gee, maybe if I tried something else I would like it too. LOL.

Quilty-Louise 04-10-2013 10:36 AM

I have had AWESOME luck with Floriani poly thread of course that is about
the only thread I really use.

I do have some (limited spools and colors) of rayon but seldom use it.

badaisie 04-10-2013 02:18 PM

I love Floriani poly thread. It has the shine of rayon but it doesn't fade. I think stablizer is the hardest part of embroidery. There is so many kinds and brands and what to use on what fabric.

quiltnut4ever 04-10-2013 03:10 PM

I concur with Quilty-Louise, I love the Floriani poly thread. Did a lace angel and it came out beautiful! Though the thread is pricey I wouldn't mind buying it. My local lqs store does carry them and I even got an email that they come in 60 color packs but don't know the price. Quilty-Louise where do you purchase your Floriani threads? at a local lqs or online? AND How's the sewing room coming along (I know its two different threads but haven't had time to locate them).

I do agree that choosing a stabilizer is a bit tricky but with time once you know the fabric type you are using it may not be as difficult.

Auntevie 04-10-2013 03:18 PM

I bought over 100 spools of poly thread when I first got my machine at Christmas! So, I was hoping my puckering isnt being caused from the poly. I have so much more to learn and I think stabilizers are tricky. I need to keep experimenting!

Gay 04-10-2013 11:08 PM

There are several reasons for puckering. 1st is the density of many designs- some just have too many stitches. It may help if you can enlarge the design a little on the machine, without increasing the number of stitches. 2nd is that with the straight-sided hoops, just a small amount of slippage of the fabric allows more to pucker. This doesn't happen with round hoops used in hand embroidery. Sometimes I pin fabric to the backing- not where the needle or foot has to go- at the top bottom and sides, especially with the large hoops. I also use starch on my fabrics, not the bought spray on kind, I mix my own and spray on. Doesn't have to be as stiff as cardboard though. I do this with patchwork as well as I find it easier to cut and sew the fabric. Lastly, these days I mostly use a wash-away adhesive backing, and sometimes A4 copy paper- tho thats a no-no to some, it eventually washes away too. You can also try using a slightly looser thread tension.
Hope this helps

Cheers....

Quilty-Louise 04-11-2013 07:31 AM

qn4e - I purchase my Floriani thread from my dealer where i purchased
my machines from. They almost ALWAYS have some kind of special/sale
running. Which helps with the price.

Right now in their sales flyer they have a special where you buy 2 spools
of Floriani poly thread get the third free (limit 4 free per customer). But
I am also a member of their "Sew Fun Club" which is annual membership
they have free classes, and such plus with SFC when they DON'T have a sale
on threads and such I get 20% off each item I purchase that is NOT on sale.

When I purchased my newest machine I also bought the 100 spool of Floriani
thread, and since I pretty much already had about 1/3 of the colors in the set
they let me them in and exchange for colors I didn't have.

I LOVE my local dealer, and there is one particular sales lady that I make sure
she is working when I make bigger purchases because she has ALWAYS gone
out of her way (more than the others) to help me and since they get paid a
commission on the bigger purchases I have her to help me so she can get the
sales commission.

I also get my Floriani stabilizers there and my mega "commercial" roll of Wet n Gone
that you liked drooling over (just kidding).

Quilty-Louise, drooling over the wet-n-gone? Me? NEVER! :D I love that stuff! I have an lqs near my job but since I get out at 5 they close at 5. I only work 1/2 day today and they are the only lqs in which I bought one machine from that sell Floriani threads and stabilizer so I may go today. Did you also see that they came out with the 30 thread holder (two packs to hold a total of 60 threads). When I get home I'll take a photo of the free standing lace angel I did with the Floriani thread!

Any body have an older machine embroidery that does not have the USB port and have to use the cards. What reader/writer box do you use? Amazon has the "Little Box" for a reasonable price. I have a Husqvarna Iris, great machine. I am looking for a reader/writer box. I would like to download designs from the internet. Any help would be great.

Jratcliff 04-12-2013 07:18 AM

On a previous post, someone had written about their machine with a thread cutter and difficulties with it cutting the threads too short. I have a Brother 6000D with a thread cutter and love it. The machine gives me the option of the length of cut which is awesome. I always leave it at the original setting of 0.5 but can change it if I want. While I don't remember what type machine the poster has, it is worth taking the time to explore the options and see if you too can change the length of the cut.

qn4e - If you have any plans for building up the amount of embroidery thread
you have (me I plan to eventually have ALL the Floriani colors) I would HIGHLY
recommend you getting the metal drawer from Ikea, they cost $40 each and are
the PERFECT interior height for holding the spools. PLUS each drawer can hold
40 spools. The drawers come in 3 colors silver, white & red.

I have 2 silver and 1 red and hope to get at least 3 more someday. Below is acouple
pictures of my cabinets. I only have the pieces of paper to "label" the number range
in each drawer. Once I have ALL the colors I will pull out my trust (and MUCH used)label
maker and make labels for the drawers.

IKEA.

quiltnut4ever 04-12-2013 01:42 PM

Louise, those are very nice and not expensive like the ones from Floriani. The only thing is nearest Ikea from me is in Tampa over 2.5 hrs away :( But on a good note I went to my lqs in Naples and they carry Floriani threads at 4.19 a spool. They also had thread sets, #1, #2 ov 100 threads for $279.99 and the new 60 threads for $179.00. After speaking with the shop owner she pointed out that buying these sets would be a great saver in price. For the 100 threads each spool would cost $2.79 ea. compared to $4.20 at the store. I am not able at this time to splurge but its tempting! One lady outright bought the 100 set! Ca-ching! Maybe when my car is paid off this year I may take that plunge! But love those metal cabinets and you can really put a lot of them nicely in there.

Crqltr 04-12-2013 01:47 PM

If there is a floriani workshop anywhere in the area it is worth the cost. Lots of info and really good deals on thread and stabilizer. I have been to two and would go again.just for the discounts!

Quilty-Louise 04-12-2013 09:17 PM

I would LOVE to take the Floriani workshops. Sadly though every
time I have seen them here in CO it just wasn't at a time when I
could travel to Fort Collins or Greeley.

I am hoping someday that there will be a workshop closer to Denver
so that I can attend.

quiltnut4ever 04-13-2013 03:05 AM

I missed a great opportunity to go to one of the their workshops for embroidery. The cost was only $30 with over $500 worth of free stuff. I hoping like you do that they'll come by again and I am definitely going!
