Thanks, Cari. Your wisdom and insight is so helpful and appreciated here!

Thanks for the compliment Sushi. I'm not so sure it's as much wisdom and insight as it is "been there done that". I've made all the mistakes, some more than once, and I still learn something every time I use my machines. I'd love to someday be organized enough to teach.

Cari, Could you help me with a problem I am having with the 500e? I am trying to use a memory stick. I formatted the stick and wrote designs to it from the editor. These designs show up on the memory stick when it is in the computer. I took the stick to the machine and cannot find the designs in the folder. What am I missing? tia
|
pewa88, I have the same problem with my Brother PE770. I would love to know the answer too.
|
I also just tried to import designs from my computer directly to the machine and am getting an error in communication message. The designs cannot be saved. I am beginning to think I have a lemon, so aggravated. Ready to call the dealer. Arghhhhhhhh
|
I don't know if designs can be imported directly from the computer with the 500e. When you formatted the stick, did you do it in the computer or in the machine? It must be done in the machine. When you put the loaded stick in the machine, the machine will organize the designs by hoop size. You have to scroll to the hoop size the machine thinks the design will use if that makes sense.

I tried formatting the USB stick both ways, via machine and computer. Still the same result. I watched a YT video that shows how to transfer designs, both ways from laptop to machine and also USB stick. I am going to contact Janome technical support. Thanks Cari.
|
pewa88...may be you have too many designs on the USB ??? so the machine cannot read it.....Even when your Usb has a big capacity the machine,s memory sometime is too small to read ....Once I understood that I don,t store many designs on the USB and solved my problem this way....Please let us know what the Janome technical support came with ????
|
pewa88, I don't have your machine but I do have a couple of others and one thing that I've always been cautioned about from different teachers, most machines have problems using large USB sticks. I guess that's why most come with a 2 or 4G. I know that its nice to have every thing on one stick but the machines don't always like it. Can't hurt to try a smaller one, they are really cheap.

I've never had to format a USB stick, I buy them put designs on them and put them in my machine or most of the time I just run them from the USB to save memory space on my machine, which will help it run better. |

All 3 of my Janomes the stick wouldn't work unless it was first formatted in the machine. I run designs from the stick too unless I edit something and might use it again, then I'll save to the machine memory. Cari |
Dilemma solved. I finally talked with a lady that works at the sewing shop where I bought the machine. The problem I was having was not placing the files into the EMB folder and then into the EMBF folder after sending them to the USB stick. After she explained that to me it worked. PTL. I tell you I was literally in tears. Those machines cost too much not to be able to use them out of the box and then think it is a big problem. I was stressed. I also found that technical support from Janome is poor! They actually refer you back to the dealer. But I am up and running now and the machine is great, so much faster and better stitch quality than my 300E. I have done 2 burp cloths and 3 bibs for the new grandbaby.

Well, I am glad to hear you had solved your problem and even more that you told us how you actually did it....we all have learning curves in the way and we all learn from each other in here.... |

What is the difference between an EMB folder and an EMBF folder?
I'm still a beginner but want to understand as much as possible. Thanks in advance! |
Sushi, From what I can understand is that the EMB is the file and the EMBF is a sub file or inner file within EMB. If I am not correct, someone please chime in. I do know that any USB stick that you use must be formatted by the machine itself before you can transfer designs to the stick. Hope this helps.

Thanks pewa88. While I still don't have a good grasp, you've given me a stool to stand on :)

Hi, I am very new here, I think this is my first post. I have a question and hope someone can help me. I have a Brother which I love and just got a Singer Futura XL 550. I have been playing around with my Singer and my question is, is there a way to move/adjust the hoop. For instance, If I hoop something and my center is off a little can I adjust the singer's hoop position? I know you can with Brother, I just cannot figure out this Singer. Hope that is not confusing. Thank you.
|
Welcome aboard addiesewsassy......I am not familiar with the singer machine but may be you can move the design a bit with some degitizing program ( Wings my editor is free and don,t be intimidated to play with it)...good luck
|
Addie, I would suggest that you use google and ask the question "how do I move a hoop on my Singer Futura XL 550". I google questions all the time - and you get great sites with the info you need. Hope this works for you.

I don't know if this is known but:
If a child knows it's name, they are to old to put a visible name on a garmet or item. If pervert calls them by name it is to late!!!! |

You can either drag a square around your entire design and then move it that way, or you can copy and paste it where you want it. It will be much easier for you if you have your grid marks checked "on" in the options. The hoop itself has center arrows on all four sides, so when you are lining it up on your screen, if you have the grid marks on, you can easily see in 1" increments where it needs to go. |

Most designs have the needle set in the center, so sometimes I will remove the fabric from the frame (don't take the frame off the machine) and readjust the fabric so the needle will be above the spot where I want the center of the design to be, even put the needle down in the fabric, then set the fabric back into the hoop. Don't pull too hard and break the needle though. I also have Brother machines, and love them. |
Ann I like your Heart Quilt are they designs by juju
Solstice3 like you blocks so far hope you share the rest of them and the quilt when you get done |
JuanitaBean....yes that,s correct the hearts are from DEsigns by JUJU.....I was just to tense trying to post the quilt in here that I forgot to mention it.....I still think I didn,t post it correctlly since it take them a long time to open......I didn,t post for many years....I believe since before the window XP....

Just visited http://www.threadsnscissors.com/ yesterday and found a few designs I want to try. Nearly every design set is $1.25, and that is not a typo, lol. She has hundreds of designs and the site is not extremely user friendly but I did find that the search feature helped. Just wanted to share this, no affiliation at all.
|
Thank you for sharing....
|
Thanks for posting this site! I hadn't heard of them...but a lot of very different types of things. I bought 8 designs!
|
Where are these darling designs from? I think I need them!
