My understanding of this is that you can buy the design, and use it, and even sell the items you've created with your purchased design...the problem is when you trade or sell or share the design you bought. The trademark is on the machine design, not what you do with it.

Thank you, Cari, for going to the trouble to post this. But it will make no difference to some people until they have to pay a huge fine and lose their expensive machine in a lawsuit by Brother. As I posted before, Mickey Mouse, etal are not that important to me that I would take any chances...I have too much invested. Those selling illegally are lucky-until they get caught. You can't fight all the lawyers that Brother Corp. has on retainers!

Yes, I bought some designs last year at an event by a specific embroidery person - they used the mylar. I did a wall hanging using those designs (sea shells), and it turned out really well. It was a gift for a friend who had recently bought a beach house. Thought I had a picture of it finished, but I just have it pieced and not yet pressed or sandwiched, but the designs were geat - but you cannot see the mylar in the picture, although the shells shimmer when seen in person because of the mylar underlay.

Yes...but...LOL....at the very top of that page you copied, they define "image" as the embroidery file itself...so you can't share, trade, sell, etc...the embroidery file. I think the confusion is coming in because we think of "image" as the stitched out design, but by their own definition, it is the file that stitches the design out.

sJens....they are fantastic...!!!
|
Using Mylar is just like using a stablizer on top of your fabric. The design needs to be less dense so the Mylar shines through. There is nothing hard about using it.

It must be a good day, because I just learned something new:). Thanks for opening my eyes to a new technique!

I just bought a Janome 15000 from a lady who got sick and can't do stuff anymore. I haven't done anything on it yet, but she had so many brand new pkgs of software designs and humongous hoops and thread that I feel I stole it from her. She'd only had it a little over a year plus I got the warranty that comes with it. It is a huge machine. Has its own sewing cabinet too
|
The 15000 is an amazing machine and you will love it. There are lots of YouTube videos, websites, FB pages, etc on line that will help you learn how to use it, if you are new to Janome machines. The manual is also an excellent source. It does beautiful embroidery.
Did you know the lady who had to sell? I can only hope that if I get to the stage that I am unable to use my wonderful machine, that someone who will appreciate it will get it. Have fun. |
The only quilt shops in my area are Bernina and Janome and they are expensive. Thanks for the info. Will check out Babylock on line.
I have a large quilting table but only have a Baby Lock Jane on it so it is not useful. Thinking of getting a Block Rocket for it. Of course no embroidery with this set up. |

The lady also had a brother innovis dreamweaver that I bought from her. She also has a large cutting table that if it doesn't fit in her new house sewing room will sell to me. I'll try to load a pic of the dreamweaverthe box it's in takes up the whole back end of my enclave

Recently finished this wall hanging. Didn't notice it was so puckered around the blue. Maybe I will do some stippling in the blue to try to hide it.
|
Like your mini quilt, Sophie2. Stippling would help hide the puckering but even without it I like your little quilt.
|
I have done some sewing on my innovis and today we had to switch the machines around to use the embroidery module for the Janome 15000 that I bought. Really like that machine too.
|
Ladies not sure you know this so I will just put it out here...Make sure you back up your designs every few years because the CD or Sticks wear out and you will loose your designs. Just found out this the other day. Also goes for other files such as pictures ect.
|
Can someone tell me how to you get your designs to show up on a Janome Skyline S9..I loss my brother Innovis 1500D in a fire. I know I have to change the file name from PES to JEF but how do I get them to show up on the machine using a stick or laptop computer. The directions are confusing to me. I'm a hand on type learner don't know why reading directions are so hard for me but they are. I pretty sure I have dyslexia but know how bad since I've never taking the test. Any help would be appreciated....
|
I would go to YouTube and search for Janome Skyline S9. I believe there are a lot of videos that may help you. Also the dealer who sold you the machine may offer classes or individual instructions. Good luck.
|
Thanks Murphy I did that last night before I seen your post and found a Video that showed me how to transfer them to the machine. And I gave it a try and it worked...Thanks for trying to help me.

|
You have to actually change the file...convert it...not just change the name from PES to JEF. Your machine won't read a PES file, so changing the name won't do anything. You will need a file converter to convert your files over to Jef format. Ask here, some of the ladies may know which ones are free, better, etc.

Thanks Donna, I already knew that! I figured it out and tried on the new machine and it worked great. I appreciate you for responding.

Hello. I can see this forum isn't very current so I don't know if there is anyone "out there" who can help me. I am looking to purchase a used Bernina 200 embroidery machine. I am a newbie. Can these machines use newer software? Can I use my Mac with it? Thanks so much if anyone can help.
|
njw,
I'll be watching for responses to your question. I have a Bernina 635 with the embroidery attachment, and I am unable to use my Mac with it. There is software - is it called Embrilliance? - that is supposed to help us Mac users make the translation. I haven't tried it, as I've found it easier to use my husband's PC to download designs. Even the Bernina embroidery software won't run on a Mac, which I find irritating and insulting - but obviously Bernina doesn't care. One of these days I may just buy the cheapest PC I can find and dedicate it to embroidery. So far I've been so frustrated by having spent so much money only to learn that I need to spend more (on a PC, the embroidery software, etc.) in order to make it work, that I've thrown in the towel. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I hope I'll feel differently one day. Thanks for letting me vent. :) |
Embrilliance does work with Mac. There are several modules you can purchase for what you want to do. For a starter, you might want the "Thumbnailer" that lets you see images of your designs that you D/L. From this point, choosing a design to emb, I do not understand why you can't load it onto a USB or card via card writer (whatever you use)..does your machine connect directly to a computer? Is that the problem with Mac? I am not familiar with the Berninas, but I will look up the models. Meantime. go to the Embrilliance site and look at the products. I have the Thumbnailer, cost abt $40, covers all formats..I would not take anything for it. It's the only image viewer I've tried and I love it. Not associated with company, but they give wonderful service if you have a problem. When transferring my Thumbnailer to WIN10, the rep called me and totally took over the computer, updated and spent quite some time until it was installed correctly. Yeah, I like the company.
|
There is a discussion here about the 200 and as I replied to the other Bernina/Mac post, Embrilliance works with Mac.

Is there a good tutorial some place on the web that explains how to quilt with the EM? Do any of you do that? And do you use a stabilizer, or does the batting act as a stabilizer? I've been seeing these great designs and thought it would be nice to try it.

Hi Sher, I saw your other post and commented there. Cute appliqués. I vote green for the front and floral for the back making it reversible. Babies spit up all the time and these tummy quilts need to turned over.It is a darling quilt.

I find it's very hard to keep up with embroidery software. I have digitizer Mb. Every up grade cost 500.00, that's what it cost to get to v 5 now. And my windows computer will no longer be supported soon. I have absolutely no desire to return to using a newer window computer,as my newest is a max. And the new version would only work on the newer computer. I don't think I would buy a older embroidery machine. My machine is a Janome mc10001, I love it, and can buy designs and transfer with 512 memory cards. Also have customizer for simple editing, which is great. But such a shame to have digitizing software that cost 1,000. In need of 500. More. And then only windows computer.

I've bought 3 used machines. One is quite old and have had no issues with it what so ever. I realized it's limitations before I bought it so there were no surprises or let downs. Cari |

As long as you can import designs to your machine by a USB flash drive, there shouldn't be any issue. The problem is with the programs for embroidery machines you install into your computer keeping up with up-dated computers, which tend to not recognize old programs. Thus we need to keep up-dating our programs, and it can be very expensive. I am not familiar with your machine, but if it takes flash cards and not USBs you could have trouble there. Hope I have helped some |
