If it is a 201, the price is on the upper side of normal. I've seen them sell that high, but seen them sell as low as $100. I'd offer $150 if you like the machine. The beauty of the 201 is the large harp space if you are going to do your own quilting on it.

The cabinet is exactly what I inherited from my mother. It is probably from early 1940's. I assume the machine is from that era as well. Mine has been changed to one from the 70's.

The machine was manuractured in 1951, but Singer has taken off the site that identifies machines by their serial number. I would trust the 201 owners on its identity. The 201 was Singer's premier machine. They are sought after in the Singer world, but the price is usually a little less. It depends on how bad you want it and what your needs are. If you want a solid machine that will give you no trouble, unlike a lot of' plastic' machines, then go for it. If you want a FW, this is not for you.

201s are great machines, just not FWs. I don't think I'd pay more than $100 unless the cabinet or accessories were especially excellent.

Yes, I agree. She doesn't even have any attachments for it so unless she comes way down in her price I won't buy this one. I will be looking until I find a good one for a good price though!
