I suspect the inflated price is so they can regularly offer discount coupons of 40 to 50% off. Those coupons just bring the product down to a "normal" price and you are SOL if you don't have a coupon. A big reason I don't regularly shop places that make it common practice to hand out a 40 - 50% off coupon on any non sale item. They try to trick you into thinking you are getting some great bargain when in reality you are not. I figured out that scam a long time ago and don't like being played for a fool just because I don't subscribe to their mailing list or download it from their website.

I saw a basting spray at similar prices and I'm sticking right now with the Sharon Schambers's zig zag stitching. I start from the middle and work my way out. I have seen the spray starch used but not sure how that would work. Worth a shot I guess!

I use the Elmer's School Glue Stick. You can see where it is, you don't get a thick guppy glob, and you can get it at a lot of the dollar type stores. I swipe it on the backing, lay the batting on it and press with my fingers to make sure there is good contact. I then do exactly the same thing with the quilt top. Works for me.

I was in a well known fabric store yesterday. I ran in to get a bottle of sewing machine oil and pick up a can of 505 basting spray. (I hate using the stuff with the fumes and all, but I really needed it for one of my projects.) They had only a small can available for (Are you sitting down?) $27.99!!! Yow!!!!! I asked the clerk if that was the correct price and she nodded. I couldn't believe it. I went to Wally World and picked up a much larger can of a competitor's spay for $8.79 and that seemed too expensive.

I paid $24.99 plus tax for a can the other day LOL Didn't even realize til I looked at the bill afterwards (i'd spent close to $500 that day, so wasn't really paying too close attention). I called the store, and they confirmed ... YUP, right price.
I'm going to research elmer's glue!
