"Eye" Spy Quilts ... some questions!!

We all have our own ideas of how an I spy can go. I have even made one for a soldier overseas. I called it, I SPY American Pie. He loved it as it had all kinds of blocks to remind him of home. My sister thought of adding strips of solid fabrics between her blocks to help with learning colors. I think that was a great idea!!

OKSewGlad ... I think you did some of the varied sizes in your I Spy's too?

I was worried that I was giving my DGS his I Spy quilt too soon. I just gave my grandson an I Spy quilt in September. He was 16 months old then. My daughter just emailed me to say that they "play" with it every morning. He cries when she picks it up to put it away. So I think it was a huge success. His favorite squares, so far, are the fire truck and the John Deere tractor. I used a Disappearing 9-patch pattern which made it very easy to do. I will be making two more for the new grandbabies that are coming. I definitely have plenty of time to get those done.

I did mine a little different than most, I think. I cut my pieces 6 inches wide and different lengths. I then put a 1 1/2 inch sash in between the random lengths, then after a row was finished I put a long sash and then did another row of lengths. That accomidated a lot of different prints and turned out really nice.
My kids were 7, 8 and 9, but I am sure other ages would enjoy them too. :)

Thank all of you for the great suggestion and links and pictures for an I Spy Quilt. I wanted to make one but was not sure what size blocks to use so I thought I would check here and now I have a better idea of the block size.
