I have address labels on all my rulers etc, and sharpie name on scissors etc. So far, I've been lucky.

I am so glad I read this post. I am starting a class (my first) next month and never gave a thought of anyone "accidently" taking my rulers or other supplies.

I will make sure and mark everything!

Being a beginner, I can understand the cost of the supplies. I have been lucky so far to buy the most expensive things with the 40-50% off coupons from Joannes. However, everything is so expensive you don't want to lose it.

I don't have a problem with sharing either, but the operative word is "share" which means to me that you use it then return it.

We all have address labels. I cut just my name from the labels and stick it on my scissors, rulers, etc.

I am a quilt teacher. I instruct ALL my students to put their name, an address label or just write with a sharpie. I explain that we all have look-a-likes, and all can get misplaced...
You could try putting a list of what you bring in your bagm box, and announce prior to end of class that you need to read it off to insure you are not taking home anyone elses belongings.
Good Luck, and sorry we cannot trust our fellow quilters. Sad, very sad.

I do this, too. I have used smiley faces on my rulers and written my initals on the stickers.

I use address labels on the short side of rulers.

When I worked in a shop, all of us had our own equipment and it all looked the same. The DD does jewelery and made all of us beads on a short loop so it was easy to determine whose scissors were out. Worked great. I now move them onto the equipment I take to class or guild. I included a pic.
