We paid $35 for our last 201 in a cabinet with three large drawers on the right of the machine. A nice machine, but not for $175.

The 201 was Singer's premier machine. They are sought after in the Singer world, but the price is usually a little less. It depends on how bad you want it and what your needs are. If you want a solid machine that will give you no trouble, unlike a lot of' plastic' machines, then go for it. If you want a FW, this is not for you.

I have a little Singer 99K that looks like the one you're looking at. Got her in the cabinet & with all the attachments. Excellent condition & after I cleaned, oiled & played with her she sews like a dream. Only paid $20. A friend got her in a mass auction buy & wanted to just give her to me but I twisted his arm to take the $20

That's a 201. It is a very good machine, but IMHO, you paid too much. They go much cheaper where I live, in Central NY. Some collectors say in is the best machine Singer ever made. It does use common needles and bobbins available in Joann's or Walmart.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I have decided not to buy this one as she will not budge on price and it has no attachments and has not been rewired.

    Thanks Again!

I usually buy the same machine in a cabinet for $50, but not more than $100. They are great machines and it looks to be in great condition but check the wiring. IMHO $175 is high. But it depends on how much you want it. They are the best that Singer made for there time.

Go for it! If it runs, you can't loose. You can repair most everything on a featherweight.

Since that is a 201, I would recommend you negotiate the price way down.

You can call Singer customer service at 1-800-474-6437 and they can tell you the model if you have the serial number.

I think it's a good price because the cabinet looks like it's in good condition. Definitely not a FW though.

That looks like a 201,which is a great machine. I have one.
This machine has a very powerful motor, feeddogs drop for free motion and does a wonderful straight stitch.
The price is great with the cabinet.

That is not a featherweight and I personally wouldn't give over $50 for it.
