I use 1/2 quilters masking tape when hand quilting and have spent the past couple of days trying to buy some rolls without any luck at all. I am so frustrated as I use it almost every day and thought when this roll ran out I would get another one without any problems.

I have been told by numerous quilt shops they don't stock it anymore as 'nobody hand quilts anymore' ! I have tried hardware stores, paint stores, auto parts stores and no luck - they have 3/4 inch and upwards.

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase rolls of the 1/2 inch quilters masking tape (3M 2214 brand if possible) from anywhere in Australia or the US online.

Or am I the only one who uses the tape now ???

Use 1/2"painters tape instead. Works just the same!

This would also be my suggestion. I've used wider painter's tape, and it goes on and comes off fine. Hopefully you can find it in 1/2".

It appears to be readily available online. Just Google 3M 2214 masking tape.

Yes, painter's tape works really well. Doesn't leave any residue. When desperate for a certain width I've even used my ruler and rotary cutter to trim down the 2 inch width.

I use the 1/2 or 3/4 inch painters masking tape for a lot of different things. It does not leave a residue on the fabric and very easy to get off.

I use painters tape. If I want a smaller size--1/2 inch and only have 1 inch tape for example I simply put it over 2 rows and stitch away. It doesnt leave any residue and can be reused for several rows before the sticky goes away. I cross-hatched a whole quilt that way.

I feel like I just saw this online somewhere. I'll see if I can figure out where I was.

I could not find 1/2 masking tape or painters tape at walmart or hdwe store. I cut it down using ruler & rotary cutter.
