My 13 yr. old granddaughter's first quilt was "Yellow Brick Road" and it worked great because mistakes didn't stand out.

How about a nine patch that you again cut in four and rearrange the pieces. Bet she'd love to make her own design out of the pieces.

that's what i was going to suggest.. my dd did very well with something similar when she was 10

I think a nine patch would be great and make the center square of each block something she really likes, maybe kitties or dogs, horses or what ever her interest are. Good luck and i know sahe will do agreat job.
I started sewing when I was about 7 and by the time I was in Junior high I was making my own clothes.

How about Turning Twenty? It has big blocks, goes together quickly, and doesn't look too easy.

Is she going to use the machine or quilt by hand? Either way I would suggest a square. If it is too hard she will be disappointed in herself and if it is easy she may be bored. Let her choose the material that she really likes. I hope she does a wonderful quilt.!!! glenda

Log Cabin is always a good one. It seems easy but I have managed on several occaisions to get pieces in the wrong place.
