A friend has about 15 quilts that his mother made in the 1950's in Texas. He wants to show them to me and perhaps I might be able to tell him if they have any history value. I told him I would love to see his mother's quilts but in the meantime, I would share his story and maybe there will be someone who can direct him in the right direction. This is not my level of expertise and any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Lan

They have a history value if not for anyone else they do for me! (look at my screen name)
If they will let you take all of the photos of them that you can and post them I would love to see them and possibly recreate a few of them for me. After all everything I own is from 1951 it seems LOL!!

I know there are quilt appraisers available. If nothing else, your friend could contact the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, NE, for help to find someone. (the IQSC has a web site, also - www.quiltstudy.org)
I'm with Lostn51 - post pics if you can. I would also love to see the quilts.

Thank you, Quilt Mom, for responding. Your web-sites will be a good start for us. Yes, I will be sure to share pictures when I meet with my friend again. It won't be right away, but I won't forget you and Lostn51. I'm just so delighted that I had two responses! lan

Thank you, Pickles. This is my first attempt to do a message and I look forward to catching on, on how to do this properly. I will be sure to share pictures of my friends quilts. His mother has passed on and has had these quilts for a few years now and doesn't know much about them. So I told him to hang on until we can get him the information for him. You are my third response and I'm so delighted! Whoo-hoo. Yes, I will post pictures as soon as we meet again. Thank you again. lan

I too would be so grateful if you would post the pictures. Seems we all absolutely love looking at quilts of every kind possible. I am sure everyone will enjoy identifying the patterns and fabrics...there are many people here who will also be able to advise on caring for and displaying them. I never leave this site without learning something new and useful.
