Bonnie from quiltville has great patterns. You may need to collect more before you start a quilt. Just set them aside and add to the collection. There is no pressure to start right away. This one is from one of her patterns. It is a mosh mosh of fabrics including some of those "so ugly, why did I buy it fabrics".

Here is a way to use strips that hasn't been mentioned....just in case it interests you. I am not sure what it is called. I made it 3 years ago, guided by someone here on the board. It is one of my favorite quilts, actually.

love the 2 sets shown. I love the mish mosh one. I also like the sqs above, but then I need to buy more fabs for the sashing. I know i'm being a pain in the @$$, i'm trying to use up all the novelty fabs and just about everything not yardage. I only have 4 or 5 pcs of yardage. you're right, I may have to collect some more lights to do this right, in the meantime, i'm making fabric like a bunny. thank you everyone for your input.

You can still make a log cabin. Just because you have a lot of scraps doesn't mean you cant buy some new fabric to finish it off. I often use clearance fabrics but not always. I've made them with just one fabric. I often have to buy light since I tend to collect and use dark and medium fabics.

Seperate out small strips so that you can maximize their use.

I'm often short of light colored fabrics, too. So when I shop I try to buy twice as much of a light fabric as I would for a darker fabric, usually 2 yards.

String quilt, string quilt, string quilt! Use the least expensive muslin your can get for the foundtion. Google and see many, many examples. They are bright, beautiful, wonderful to snuggle up with when you are in your recliner or you are a passenger in a car with a driver who won't turn the heater on! They launder like a dream. froggyintexas

Look for her Scrappy Railfence Block tutorial. It uses 2 1/2 inch strips from 2 to 10 inches long. I'm cutting for this quilt in between other projects but I haven't made one yet.
