Oh gosh no!! you can use yardage however, im a scrap hoarder, i keep ALL size pieces of fabric.. I separate my scraps into tubs of specific size lil cascade/Tab tubs (this is just for my swaps scraps)
but i have larger All Tabs detergent see thru tubs for the scraps - I set up for a labeled tub for each individual Accuquilt die i have.. what ever scrap fits which die determines where that scrap will go.. ( PUN intended.. )

and depending on what im cutting ill either separate them by colors in these handy dandy bins acquired at garage sales for ten cents ... OR..

.

ill toss them in a box pull out two at random and sew leaders and enders.. Both of the above quilts i pictured were leaders and enders quilts...

I use my GO alot.. and i do go thru my mats, they are disposable to me so i have back up mats for the back up mats..

LuvTooQuilt, I especially like the first quilt you showed! Is there a pattern name?

I have a scrap bin and once it's full I have a fun day or two with my rotary cutter. Thinking about a GO as a reward to reaching my UFO goals though.... Scrap quilts are my favorites.

Luvtoquilt those are real beauties! Thanks for sharing them and your system. I use those plastic trays all the time too. I figure some day when cutting might be more difficult I will be ready with lots of pieces ready to sew.

Before getting my Accuquilt I cut them using a rotary cutter.

luvTooQuilt, you really are an encourager to cut up those scraps into usable pieces. I'm ready to get busy on a big pile of scraps. I will do a few each day and I promise to deal with scraps after each project!

I have a GO. If I just need a couple of cuts I use my rotary cutter. I am in the process of making 2 baby quilts and the pattern calls for 144 8" x 2 1/2" strips, 96 8" x 2" strips and 254 2" squares for the 2 quilts. I am using my GO for this quilt. I cut the 144 8" x 2 1/2" strips in about 20 minutes yesterday and will finishing cutting the quilt today.
My first GO quilt called for over 500 2 1/2" squares. It amazed me how quickly I was able to cut them and then it really amazed me when all of my squares sewed together so perfectly. I had very little trimming to do on my finished blocks. That quilt made a GO believer out of me.

Several years ago I taught the Scrap Therapy series. I cut scraps from other projects into 2", 3 1/2", and 5" squares, depending on how big the scrap is that's left using the rotary cutter and ruler. My squares are then stored in boxes with the 2" stored in a divided box. I usually work from the box and cut anything additional I need as I go.
