Great idea bjchad. And if you stack the painters tape 3or4 deep you have an "edge" to bump into and you can measure by "feel" rather than by sight.

I feel that the real small templates are hazardous to cut around. I'm afraid I will cut my fingers. I'd rather use maybe a 2x12 that I can hold on to it better. Can use the color transparent tape to hold your place exactly where you need it.

Be carefull cutting individual small pieces using a small ruler. At least wear a cut resistant glove. One bad cut and you could have bought a Go and the die instead of paying the ER and suffering the trauma.

So much easier to cut strips then cross cut them with a June Tailor Shape Cut. You can cut many at one time.

this was going to be my suggestion! I know the shape cut can be expensive, but I love it.

That's what I was going to suggest. I think a 2x2 would be way too small for me to hold onto while cutting around it.

I have a drawer in my sewing room that (so far) only has rulers, templates, and cutting tools in it.
Love the idea of having Lowe's cut templates for hard-to-find sizes!
Different colored envelopes or file pockets could help organize sizes in a large collection.

You can order a 2' acrylic template from Brandys patterns here. I use their mylar templates for English Paper Piecing. They have great service. I usually just give them a call and place the order over the phone. Great small business. http://www.brandysquiltpatterns.com
